What is a remote content writer internship?

A Remote Content Writer Internship is a temporary, entry-level position where individuals create written content for websites, blogs, social media, or other digital platforms while working from a location outside of the employer’s office. Interns typically research topics, write articles, edit drafts, and learn about digital marketing and SEO practices. This role allows participants to gain practical writing experience, build a professional portfolio, and develop skills in online communication and content creation. It is an ideal opportunity for students or recent graduates interested in writing and digital media to start their career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote content writer intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Content Writer Intern, you need excellent writing, research, and grammar skills, often supported by coursework or experience in English, communications, or journalism. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, basic SEO tools, and editing software is typically expected. Strong time management, adaptability, and the ability to communicate clearly with remote teams distinguish outstanding interns. These skills ensure you can produce high-quality, engaging content on deadline while collaborating effectively in a virtual work environment.

What are the most common challenges faced by remote content writer interns, and how can they be overcome?

Remote content writer interns often encounter challenges such as managing time effectively without in-person supervision, staying motivated, and communicating clearly with team members across different time zones. To overcome these, it's important to establish a consistent daily routine, utilize project management tools for task tracking, and proactively reach out to editors or managers for feedback or clarification. Regular check-ins and participating in virtual team meetings can also help interns feel more connected and supported while working remotely.

Job description

About the Opportunity

LILT is seeking skilled writers to contribute original, human-authored text samples across a range of subject domains. This work supports our language data and AI evaluation initiatives, helping ensure high-quality, authentic writing is available to benchmark and improve language technology.

What You'll Deliver
  • Write an original, human-authored text in your domain(s) of expertise (e.g., law, business, biography, religion, philosophy, poetry).

  • Follow a provided prompt as the starting point for your piece, once your domain of expertise has been identified.

  • Ensure all content is entirely original — no use of AI tools, translation tools, or copied material from any source.

  • Attest in writing to the originality of your submission.

  • Agree not to publish the content anywhere else, in accordance with the project's confidentiality terms.

Qualifications
  • Native-level fluency and strong writing skills in the target language.

  • Demonstrable subject-matter expertise in one or more domains (e.g., law, business, biography, religion, philosophy, poetry - other domains may apply).

  • Prior writing experience preferred (professional, academic, or published work).

  • Strong command of style, tone, and structure appropriate to the chosen domain.

  • Comfortable working independently from a prompt with minimal creative guidance.

  • Strict adherence to originality and confidentiality requirements.

Why Collaborate with Lilt?
  • Your schedule, your rules. As an independent contractor, work when you want, as much or as little as you want. No fixed hours, no check-ins, no micromanaging.

  • Get paid quickly and fairly. We respect your time and your expertise. Competitive rates, prompt payments, no chasing invoices.

  • Work on projects that actually matter. Contribute to cutting-edge AI and language technology that is shaping how humans and machines communicate.

  • Be part of something bigger. Join a global community of linguists, subject matter experts, and language professionals who are advancing human knowledge together.

  • Grow without limits. As a Lilt contractor you get access to diverse, innovative projects that expand your portfolio and sharpen your skills across industries and domains.

  • Have fun doing what you love. Bring your language skills to life on projects that are as interesting as they are impactful. We are building a rigorous, verifiable evaluation suite of Terminal-Bench tasks designed to test the limits of large language models on multilingual software challenges. Our goal is to measure multilingual robustness across prompt language effects, non-English data processing, and complex locale/encoding edge cases in terminal workflows.

What to Consider Before Applying
  • Not ideal as a full time job or primary income source. Work availability fluctuates with project demand, making this better suited as a supplemental income stream. As a 1099 contractor, you won't receive benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, or retirement contributions, and hours are not guaranteed.

  • Requires reliable availability and commitment. Once you accept a task, we expect quality work and on-time delivery. Most tasks require a minimum of 2 hours per day or 10 hours per week. If your schedule is unpredictable, this may not be the right fit.

  • Geographic restrictions may apply. We cannot engage contractors in regions subject to international embargo or sanctions. As a 1099 contractor, you are solely responsible for your own tax obligations. We recommend consulting a tax professional before engaging.
