To thrive as a Remote Container Ship Operator, you need expertise in maritime operations, navigation, and logistics, typically supported by relevant maritime certifications and experience. Familiarity with remote vessel control systems, maritime communication technologies, and fleet management software is essential. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure safe, efficient, and compliant remote vessel operations in a highly technical and dynamic environment.

Additionally, regular drills, safety trainings, and strong camaraderie among the crew help to maintain morale and ensure a safe, effective working environment.

What is a remote container ship?

A Remote Container Ship is a type of cargo vessel designed to be operated with minimal or no onboard crew, instead being monitored and controlled remotely using advanced automation, sensors, and communication technologies. These ships are part of the growing trend toward autonomous shipping, aiming to improve efficiency, safety, and reduce operational costs. Remote container ships use sophisticated navigation systems and are often overseen by operators from shore-based control centers. Job description

Our client is an established product company in the vehicle technology space. Their software powers hardware used every day by public safety and commercial fleet customers across the country. The engineering team is growing, and this is a newly created role, not a backfill. You'd join a team of 7 building modern, full stack applications, with most of your time on the backend.

This is pure application work. No firmware, no embedded systems.

What you'll do

Design and build backend services and APIs in ASP.NET Core that power desktop, web, and cloud products

Contribute across the stack, including Angular front ends, when the work calls for it

Deploy and run services in Kubernetes as part of a modern development pipeline

Work directly with product and hardware teams to ship features customers actually use

Help raise the bar on code quality, architecture decisions, and development speed for a growing team

Support and train internal technical teams on new releases

What we're looking for

5+ years of professional software development experience, with real depth in .NET / ASP.NET Core

Solid backend fundamentals: API design, data modeling, performance, and reliability

Working experience with Angular or a comparable modern front end framework

Familiarity with containers and Kubernetes, or strong interest in getting there fast

Someone who ships. You manage your own work, hit deadlines, and communicate clearly with people outside engineering

Comfortable in a product company where software and hardware succeed together

Compensation and process

Up to $150,000 base, depending on experience

Fully remote within the US

Three interviews total: an initial conversation, then two rounds with engineering leadership

Fast timeline. This client is committed to a decision within weeks, not months.

Why this role

New seat on a small team means real ownership from day one. The products serve public safety and transportation customers, so the work has weight beyond the sprint board. Client name shared with qualified candidates after an initial conversation.
