Lovejoy, a company in the Timken family of brands, is hiring a Design Engineer.

Position Summary: Prepare engineering designs for products and components to support customer orders and internal development. Provide engineering support to sales, product management, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality team.  Supports external customers with occasional on-site or remote real-time problem-solving.

Essential Responsibilities:

  •  PRODUCT DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
      • Serve as the technical liaison with the customer.  Clearly define application, technical parameters, and operating conditions to ensure the right product is developed for the application.
      • Develop product designs (2D & 3D) that meet identified performance criteria, are optimized for manufacturability and cost effectiveness.
      • Conduct thorough engineering analysis by hand and the use of analytical tools (TK Solver, Mathcad, etc.) 
      • Develop product documentation (bills of material, 2D/3D product drawings, product specifications, engineering calculations, installation instructions, etc.) and execute material creation and deployment processes within SAP.
      • Validate product performance through physical testing. Develop test parameters, test standards and samples. Operate test equipment, collect & analyze data, and publish engineering analysis.
      • Support innovation within the team
  • PROJECT LEADERSHIP
      • Work closely with sales and product management teams to support and drive new and continuous product development projects.
      • Partner with purchasing team in the selection and development of suppliers to deliver cost effective products that meet performance specifications and quality standards. 
      • Coach and train junior engineers, application engineers, and other engineering team members to help them grow in their technical responsibilities
      • Participate in projects across multidisciplinary teams to achieve corporate strategic objectives
  • TECHNICAL SUPPORT
      • Provide design support (application assessments, concept drawings, performance calculations, cost estimates, etc.) to the application engineering and product management teams during the quotation phases of projects.
      • Serve as the primary point of contact within the business for technical product related questions of moderate scope and complexity (internally & externally).
      • Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to address product concerns, change requests, and continuous improvement activities.  Utilize problem solving skills to identify root cause and corrective actions.
    • Other related duties as assigned.

Technical/Functional Skills:

    • Solid modeling experience, Creo preferred
    • Read, interpret, and create assembly and component drawings
    • Ability to work with little supervision and complete projects on time
    • Strong communication skills - verbal, written, and presentation

Education and Experience:  

    • Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in engineering or mechanical engineering.
    • 3 years of experience in mechanical component and assembly industry working with creation of models and drawings is required, 5 years' experience is preferred.
    • 1 year of experience in coupling design and manufacturing is preferred.

The pay range for this position is $72,000 to $95,000 annually and is commensurate on experience and education and could pay more or less than the posted range. This full-time position is eligible to participate in the company's short-term incentive program, paid time off, 401k, and comprehensive benefits package including, medical, dental and vision.   

This position may require access to United States export controlled technical data ("CTD") and hardware under the Departments of US State (ITAR) and/or Commerce (EAR).  Eligible candidates are; US Citizens, Green Card holders, Asylees or others eligible to receive US export license authorizations. Candidate must be authorized to work in the US.
