Job description

Leidos Engineering has an opportunity for a Project Manager who will work alongside lead engineers and account managers supporting substation engineering projects for various electric utility clients throughout the Northern United States. The PM will be part of an established team within our Power Delivery Solutions (PDS) division. PDS provides consulting services to public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities for comprehensive engineering design of electrical transmission, substation, and distribution projects nationwide.

This position is hybrid in nature, with remote work capabilities typically 2-3x/week. This role can be performed from either Leidos office in Walled Lake Michigan or Framingham, Massachusetts.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams to complete engineering design of various sized electric infrastructure projects for electric utilities
  • Accept responsibility for overall project performance and reporting
  • Manage project costs, schedule and scope within approved limits, including the development of recovery plans when needed
  • Ensure contract compliance
  • Drive work products by coordinating and working with Engineering Leads and Managers to track and execute client deliverables
  • Ensure and document adherence to the quality control process
  • Interface directly with the client and internal management to solve issues and report progress, costs, schedule adherence and risks across a program of projects
  • Communicate with clients, internal project teams, multiple engineering disciplines, functional leaders, subcontractors, and support personnel
  • Prepare bid documents; Develop cost estimates and responses to Requests for Proposal
  • Complete monthly invoices, accruals, and accounts receivable within prescribed time frames
  • Identify business development opportunities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or a closely related discipline is required
  • A minimum of five (5) + years of relevant Project Management experience
  • Familiarity with the electric power industry and knowledge of business issues associated with power delivery services
  • Demonstrated experience understanding, planning, managing and reporting project financial performance, budgets, proposals, scopes and schedules
  • Must have the capability to plan, organize, direct, and track technical efforts on project tasks
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to interact with customer representatives in an effective manner
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Proficiency with project management software (e.g., MS Project, P6)
  • Strong MS Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Periodic travel may be expected (less than 5%); Candidates should possess a valid US driver's license; Hyrbid office attendance expected

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP Certification (or intention to obtain within the first year)
  • Direct experience with electric power infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrated success with a team approach to the consulting business
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Supervisory experience
