Withum's National Tax Services Group is made up of a brilliant team of tax specialists that work to ensure tax reporting obligations are met in an accurate and timely manner and minimize or defer the payment of taxes. Their comprehensive understanding of international, US federal, state, and local regulations, counting our affiliation with HLB international, allows them to help develop economical tax strategies anywhere. Their services include Business, Individual, State & Local tax, R&D Tax Credit, as well as Cost Segregation, International and Private Client services.

As a cost segregation professional, you will be reporting to the leader of the Cost Segregation practice and work alongside an integrated team of seasoned, well-known professionals and industry leaders. In this position, you will work on all aspects of engagements and build/maintain relationships with clients.

Howyou'll spend your time:

  • Performing physical site inspections of properties in order to take detailed notes, sketches or measurements and photographing the various components of the property for IRS audit substantiation purposes

  • Analyzing construction general ledgers, contractor payment applications, and other cost/financial documentation, and reconciling the information to various accounting records

  • Reading, interpreting and estimating take-off quantities from blueprints and other cost information provided by clients

  • Preparing schedules that support findings in accordance with IRS standards

  • Meeting client expectations by adhering to pre-established deadlines

Thekind ofpeoplewewant totalk tohavemany ofthefollowing:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or electrical, mechanical or civil engineering preferred

  • 2+ years experience in the construction field

  • A working knowledge of IRS code sections, court cases, revenue rulings and other tax citations related to cost segregation

  • Strong understanding of construction design and processes as well as depreciation, in order to determine the appropriate tax lives for building assets in accordance with IRS standards

  • Knowledge of real estate appraisals and valuations

  • A strong working knowledge of RS Means Cost Estimator and Marshall & Swift and/or Planswift or similar blueprint reading/estimating software

  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills - Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.

  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment

  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the year to project sites

  • Willing to train the right professional

The compensation for this position ranges from $75,000 - $110,000. In addition to the base compensation, Withum offers a competitive benefits package and bonus program (for eligible roles) based on individual and firm performance.
