ATTENTION ALL APPLICANTS. The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Southcoast Region Highways and Aviation, is looking for a Maintenance and Operations Specialist in Juneau or Wrangell to help us Keep Alaska Moving. Pay is based on the location of the selected applicant; salaries will be discussed at the time of the interview.

Wrangell: $44.49 hourly (OT Eligible) Juneau: $46.71 hourly (OT Eligible) What you will be doing: Under the general direction of the Regional Maintenance Manager, this position develops and administers the Region`s M&O related state and federal capital improvement programs, including deferred maintenance projects completed by contract and force account. Who we are looking for: Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the core competencies of: Project Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance. Compliance: Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and guidance. Civil Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.

Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance

Planning and Evaluating: Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes. Road Work and Pavement: Knowledge of materials, methods, and appropriate tools to construct, maintain, or repair road surfaces, including sidewalks, parking lots, runways, etc. Transportation: Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including costs and limits.

Equivalent to those typically gained by: Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in highway, street, utility, or airport maintenance, operations, design, or construction; project or program management, engineering; construction management; business administration, or other closely related field. Special Note: "Competencies" means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation. "Typically gained by" means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.

"Training" and "education" in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction.
