Job description

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is hiring an Applications Developer to join our Electronic Data & Interoperability team. In this fully-remote role, you'll work alongside both tenured engineers and earlier career peers to analyze, develop, enhance, and support applications in Java and SQL.

This is a great opportunity for an early-career developer who wants to grow in enterprise healthcare technology, gain exposure to healthcare data standards, and contribute to systems that support critical business and regulatory initiatives.

Ideal candidates for this role will bring:

A strong willingness to learn and grow

Experience coding in Java

Familiarity with SQL Server

Note:

This role participates in an on-call rotation twice per year.

Job Responsibilities

  • Formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to design, develop, modify, or integrate information systems
  • Devises or modifies application systems and procedures to optimize functional requirements including capacity, operating time, response time, and form of desired results.
  • Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents programs, subroutines, and scripts.
  • Maintains technical skill set for software languages, databases, platforms, operating systems, utilities and networks needed to support work assignments.
  • Responds to system failures and performance events by taking appropriate measures to reduce system downtime and eliminate recurrence of problems.
  • May conduct presentations to provide end users with knowledge to maximize their use of developed systems.

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science (or related field) or equivalent work experience required. Equivalent years of experience are determined as one year of technical experience for every year of college requested.
