Job description

Summary
The New Mexico VA Healthcare Network is recruiting for a Computer Assistant assigned to the Nursing Service. The employee functions as an Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator (ADP AC) for the NMV AHCS, Albuquerque, NM, providing administrative, data support and retrieval, and computer ADP AC duties in support of the Clinical and Administrative operations of the inpatient wards.

Duties include but are not limited to
  • Monitors the overall computer applications operation and status and providing local user support, training and general guidance. Determines/defines ADP requirements for the organizations.
  • Prepares analysis and justification to substantiate requests for ADP software and hardware. Works with technical staff to implement/install new software and hardware.
  • Works with information management to implement, modify, and troubleshoot local system.
  • Communicates user's needs in order to modify system and ideas for enhancement that require program changes to local systems.
  • Works with programmers/developers at the appropriate Information Systems Center to resolve problems. Prepares annual SADP equipment needs plan for in patient wards.
  • Maintains an inventory of ADP equipment assigned to the inpatient wards. Responsible for several reports utilizing Fileman.
  • Orders all supplies of inpatient wards ADP system users.
  • Uses computer software programs to develop procedures for validation of data input.
  • Analyzes data, identifies discrepancies, makes corrections, and recommends a course of action to assure accuracy and timeline of future data input.

Work Schedule: 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday - Friday.

  • To be considered for this position, you must complete all required steps in the process. In addition to the application and questionnaire, this position requires an online assessment. The online assessment measures critical general competencies required to perform the job.
  • Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary and is usually accomplished while the incumbent is comfortably seated at a desk or table. Some walking and standing may occur in the course of a non-workday in connection with attendance at meetings and conferences, or while researching files. Items carried typically are light objects such as, briefcases, notebooks, and data processing reports. Lifting of moderately heavy objects is not normally required. No special physical effort is required to perform the work.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/03/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: provide Information Technology application and Information Security support; set up, take down, and move computer equipment; provide software and/or device training; maintain equipment inventory; experience with preparation and implementation of contingency plans for system failure; create/maintain standard operating procedures; performing clerical/administrative duties in an office environment; troubleshooting to the resolution of user hardware, software application, and/or computer problems; providing basic Computer Training, performing data processing support and training software instructions for system users.
