Staff Forensic Engineer

Location: Plano, Texas, In Office

The Role:
We are seeking a Staff Engineer to join our growing forensic engineering team. In this role, you'll investigate structural failures, construction defects, and building performance issues across residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial properties. Every assignment presents a unique engineering challenge requiring critical thinking, technical expertise, and objective analysis.

What You’ll Do

·         Forensic Investigations: Conduct field investigations involving structural failures, construction defects, geotechnical concerns, building envelope performance, moisture intrusion, peril-related damage, and personal injury claims.

·         Engineering Evaluations: Assess residential, multi-family, commercial, institutional, industrial, and ancillary structures including retaining walls, swimming pools, screen walls, and site improvements.

·         Site Documentation: Perform site observations, document existing conditions, coordinate or witness testing, collect relevant data, and accurately record findings.

·         Engineering Analysis & Reporting: Analyze field observations, testing results, construction documents, engineering principles, and applicable codes and standards to determine the root cause of failures and prepare clear, objective, and technically sound reports.

·         Technical Research: Perform engineering research and review industry standards, technical literature, and applicable codes to support investigation findings.

·         Client Communication: Communicate professionally with clients throughout the investigation process, answer technical questions, and present findings and recommendations as needed.

·         Collaboration: Work closely with fellow engineers and technical staff to share knowledge, review findings, and deliver high-quality work while meeting project schedules and client expectations.

·         Professional Growth: Continuously expand technical knowledge through mentorship, training, industry involvement, and participation in professional organizations and educational opportunities.

What You Bring

·         Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering (Master's degree preferred).

·         Experience: Five or more years of experience in structural engineering, civil engineering, forensic engineering, or a related field.

·         Licensure: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas required. NCEES Record preferred.

·         Technical Skills: Strong understanding of structural systems, construction methods, building envelopes, geotechnical engineering, and engineering analysis.

·         Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare concise, technically accurate reports.

·         Professionalism: Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional client service with integrity and objectivity.

·         Travel: Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites. Overnight travel may occasionally be required.

·         Preferred Experience: Litigation support, deposition experience, expert witness testimony, or forensic consulting experience is a plus.

Work Location:

Work may be performed remotely, in-office, or in a hybrid arrangement depending on project needs. Candidates must reside within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex due to the field-based nature of the role.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This position is a combination of site visits, travel-related work, and sedentary work. An employee is regularly required to drive, stand, sit, walk, reach, type, talk, hear, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, push, pull, carry, and lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds. An employee may also be required to traverse uneven terrain, enter structures, use ladders, climb scaffolding, walk on roofs, enter crawl spaces and other tight areas, as well as work in a variety of weather conditions.
