CAD OPERATOR III, ELECTRICAL SUMMARY
Utilizing computer aided design (CAD) systems, CAD Operator III, Electrical will transform initial rough product designs and or sketches provided by others into system, equipment, or installation drawings. Will have competent understanding of a CAD system in compliance with the company's production and design standards; prepares advanced drafting assignments; provides support to Designers, Engineers, Project Managers, and other CAD Operators; operates peripheral equipment such as printers, copiers, plotters and other drawing reproduction equipment
This is a non-exempt position. This position receives assignments from the Design Department Coordinator and reports administratively to the Vice President of Engineering.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor Degree in an associated area or, Associates Degree in computer-aided drafting or, equivalent experience
• Six years or more of CAD electrical experience
• Able to complete work assignments on time consistently with a strong emphasis on technical accuracy and overall attention to detail
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Requires a thorough understanding of electrical distribution equipment
• Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures related to computer aided design within the electrical design field
• Proficient in reading, understanding, and producing electrical layouts and diagrams
• Ability to review engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established CAD standards
• Complete understanding of various types of electrical drawings such as P&ID's, single line diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, wiring schematics, and power plans
• Participate in an assortment of departmental cross-training instruction
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Revises/changes drawings, traces and/or copies of existing drawings
Creates engineering drawings, designs, and layouts from rough sketches, engineering notes, equipment drawings and verbal instruction
• Creates complicated electrical installation designs and layouts
• Generates new and as-built documentation
• Corrects and updates design documents i.e. electrical layouts, control diagrams, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, schematics and panel schedules etc
. • Assembles construction drawing packages (i.e. photocopying, binding)
• Understands and follows company drawing standards and procedures for sheet layouts
• Maintains project-drawing files, drawing library and associated records and documentation
• Consults with project managers engineers, designers, and other CAD operators as part of the design team • Relies on instructions and pre-established CAD guidelines to perform tasks
• Converts limited verbal and written directions into a finished product or document
• Works on several concurrent projects
• Assists in maintaining schedules
• Familiar with safety equipment, uses it as required, comply with company safety policies, demonstrate awareness and concern for safety of self and co-workers at all times
