Job description

CommIT Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the team inCharleston, SC-*can also be remote! The Senior Data Engineer will design, build, and optimize data pipelines, data models, and analytics integrations supporting enterprise platforms such as Jupiter, ADVANA, and other DoD data ecosystems. The ideal candidate brings hands on experience with Marine Corps logistics data (e.g., GCSSMC, MDSSII, TFSMS, MERIT) and understands how to translate operational data into authoritative, high quality analytic products. 


You will collaborate with product teams, data scientists, analysts, and Marine Corps stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, lineage, governance, and performance across mission critical environments. 

Established in 2001, CommIT is a Certified Veteran-Owned Small Business (CVOSB) providing innovative technical engineering and data science services. Our enterprise systems support includes the Department of Defense’s (DoD) GCSS-MC, CAC2S, TBMCS-MC, and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs’ (VA) telehealth communications. We offer acquisition management, systems engineering, Agile software development, cloud management, IT modernization, data analytics, cybersecurity, and training, including leading-edge DevSecOps, automated testing, and mobile application development.


Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to-

  • Data Pipeline Engineering — Architect, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured logistics data. 
  • Jupiter / ADVANA Integration — Develop ingestion, transformation, and validation workflows aligned with OSD ADVANA and Jupiter data standards. 
  • Marine Corps Logistics Data Modeling — Create authoritative data models using GCSSMC, supply chain, readiness, and maintenance data sets. 
  • Cloud & Big Data Engineering — Implement solutions using cloud-native services, distributed compute, and secure DoD data platforms. 
  • Data Quality & Governance — Establish validation rules, lineage tracking, and metadata standards to ensure data trustworthiness. 
  • CrossFunctional Collaboration — Partner with analysts, product owners, and mission stakeholders to deliver high impact data products. 
  • Performance Optimization — Tune pipelines, queries, and storage patterns for speed, reliability, and cost efficiency. 
  • Security & Compliance — Ensure all data engineering work aligns with DoD cybersecurity, Zero Trust, and RMF requirements. 

Required Experience and Education:

  • Master’s degree with 6 years of experience (or Bachelors with 8 years of experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or relevant field. Degree may be substituted with additional relevant industry experience and / or industry accepted training and certification. 
  • Hands on experience with Jupiter, ADVANA, or similar DoD enterprise data platforms.
  • Demonstrated expertise with Marine Corps logistics data, including supply, maintenance, readiness, and force structure data sets. 
  • Proficiency in: 
    • Python, SQL, or similar tools 
    • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or DoD Cloud environments)
    • Data warehousing technologies (Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, or equivalent) 
  • Experience with API integrations, data ingestion frameworks, and distributed computer systems.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with technical and nontechnical stakeholders. 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with USMC systems such as GCSSMC, MERIT, TFSMS, MDSSII, or MCTFS.
  • Familiarity with data cataloging, lineage tools, and governance frameworks.
  • Experience supporting logistics readiness, predictive maintenance, or supply chain optimization analytics. 
  • Agile/Scrum experience; Jira/Confluence proficiency. 

Security Requirements:

  • Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a T5 
  • Security+ CE
