What is a remote computer engineering student?

Remote computer engineering students are individuals who are pursuing a degree or taking courses in computer engineering through online or distance-learning programs. These students complete their coursework, projects, and sometimes even labs entirely online, allowing them to study from anywhere with an internet connection. This flexibility can help students balance their education with work or personal commitments, and opens up access to programs that may not be available locally. Remote learners often use video lectures, virtual labs, and online collaboration tools to interact with instructors and classmates.

How do remote computer engineering students effectively collaborate with team members and instructors during group projects?

Remote computer engineering students typically use collaboration tools such as version control systems (like Git), video conferencing platforms, and shared document editors to work together on group projects. Regular virtual meetings and clear communication channels are essential for staying aligned and addressing challenges quickly. Many programs encourage students to adopt agile methodologies, assigning roles and setting milestones to maintain project momentum. Building strong digital communication skills and proactively reaching out to peers and instructors are key to ensuring successful teamwork in a remote setting.

What is the difference between Remote Computer Engineering Student vs Remote Software Developer?

Job Description

The Opportunity

As the Center for Space and Atmospheric Research (CSAR) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University continues to expand its research enterprise, we are seeking to connect with talented and motivated individuals interested in current and future opportunities in ionospheric and atmospheric physics, planetary science, remote sensing, high-fidelity modeling and simulation, spacecraft data analysis, and in situ instrumentation.

CSAR and its various associated laboratories are building a pool of candidates for anticipated Research Engineer/Scientist positions that may arise as new projects and funding opportunities develop. While submission of materials does not guarantee immediate consideration or contact, qualified applicants may be contacted as opportunities become available. The appointment can also be at Senior or Principal Research Engineer/Scientist positions, commensurate to experience and available opportunities.

These opportunities may involve supporting ongoing and future ionospheric research activities within CSAR and collaborating on a variety of instrumentation, modeling, and basic science projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

Depending on project needs and available funding, responsibilities may include:

  • Contributing to the development of in-situ instruments for sounding rocket missions and small satellites, or the development of ground- and space-based remote sensing instrumentation.
  • Designing, developing, and applying high-fidelity models for simulation and synthesis
  • Data analysis and interpretation from in-situ observations (including satellite constellations) and ground-based remote sensing systems.
  • Operating, maintaining, and conducting experiments in plasma chamber facilities, including spacecraft charging and flight instrument characterization studies.
  • Supervision, mentoring, and teaching of undergraduate engineering and science projects, as well as graduate student theses and dissertations.
  • Collaborating with researchers within the CSAR and external partners.
  • Presenting research findings at scientific conferences and contributing to peer-reviewed publications.

Appointments, if available, are expected to be full-time, benefits-eligible positions, with duration and renewal dependent upon project funding, performance, and research needs.
