Remote Computer Architect information

How does a Remote Computer Architect typically collaborate with cross-functional teams on projects?

As a Remote Computer Architect, collaboration with cross-functional teams is typically achieved through virtual meetings, collaborative design tools, and clear documentation. You will often work closely with software engineers, hardware designers, and project managers to define system requirements and review architectural plans. Effective communication and proactive updates are essential to ensure alignment, especially since team members may be in different time zones. Leveraging shared platforms for code, diagrams, and project management helps maintain transparency and streamlines decision-making across distributed teams.

What is the difference between Remote Computer Architect vs Remote Network Architect?

Common Search & ComparisonYesYes

The Remote Computer Architect focuses on designing computer systems and hardware architecture, while the Remote Network Architect specializes in planning and managing network infrastructure. Both roles require similar certifications and often work in tech-driven industries, but their core responsibilities differ in hardware versus network design.

What is a Remote Computer Architect?

A Remote Computer Architect is a professional who designs and develops computer systems, hardware, and network infrastructure while working remotely, often from a home office or another offsite location. Their responsibilities typically include creating high-level system architecture, evaluating hardware and software solutions, and ensuring that systems are scalable and efficient. They collaborate with engineers, developers, and other stakeholders through virtual communication tools to plan, implement, and optimize computing solutions. This role requires strong technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Computer Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Computer Architect, you need a strong background in computer engineering, system architecture design, and advanced knowledge of hardware-software integration, typically supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with architectural modeling tools (such as SystemC or Verilog), cloud-based collaboration platforms, and industry-standard certifications (like TOGAF or AWS Certified Solutions Architect) is often required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and self-management skills are crucial for effective remote teamwork and client interaction. These competencies ensure efficient design, implementation, and integration of complex computing systems in distributed work environments.

Job description

At Tenstorrent, we believe the future of computing must be open, which is why our interns don't just watch from the sidelines - they help build the core of it. We provide a "code-to-career" pipeline where students collaborate with industry experts to solve high-stakes problems in RISC-V and AI hardware-software co-design. By joining us, you are taking an internship to democratize high-performance computers that are accessible to everyone.

As a CPU Performance Architect Intern at Tenstorrent, you will join a team of world-class CPU designers and performance architects to shape the future of high-performance computing. You will research emerging CPU workloads, analyze their impact on next-generation CPUs, accelerators, and build innovative solutions that maximize hardware performance.ย
This role is on-site, based in our Santa Clara, CA office. We may also consider remote candidatesย on a case-by-case basis.ย
ย

Who You Areย

  • Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Architecture,ย Parallel Computingย Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning, or a related field, with a strong publication record.
  • Strong foundation in computer organization, computer architecture, parallel computation and digital logic design.ย
  • Hands-on with Linux, performance and power profiling tools, Silicon PMU profiling, and hardware performance counters.ย
  • Proficient in Shell scripting, Python, and C++, with experience in PyTorch, benchmarking, and targeted microbenchmarks.ย
  • Strong familiarity with modern AI productivity workflows, with the ability to effectively use AI tools.ย

What We Needย

  • Conduct deep research into cutting-edge CPU application trends, workload characterization, and advanced performance and power modeling techniques.ย
  • Build robust profiling, automation, and visualization tools that accelerate workload analysis and streamline production workflows.ย
  • Identify microarchitectural bottlenecks, reduce workloads for efficient simulation, andย leverageย hardware-software co-design principles to propose hardware-aware optimizations.ย
  • Enable and optimize critical CPU workloads,ย utilizing advanced parallel computation techniquesย to unlock the full potential of Tenstorrent hardware and contribute novel research or patentable ideas.ย

What You Will Learnย

  • How CPU workload analysis informs next-generation accelerator architecture and performance strategy.ย
  • Practical approaches to workload characterization, reduction, performance modeling, and simulation at scale.ย
  • How to profile, analyze, and optimize real-world software, ranging from industry-standard SPEC CPU benchmarks to emerging agentic AI workloads across hardware and software boundaries.ย
  • Techniques for identifying performance bottlenecks and optimizing the execution of multi-agent AI systems on modern microarchitectures.ย
  • How CPU designers, performance architects, and software teams work together to turn analysis into product impact.ย
