Remote Computational Design Jobs in Ohio (NOW HIRING)

Remote Computational Design information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Computational Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Computational Designer, you need expertise in computational geometry, algorithm development, and digital modeling, usually backed by a degree in architecture, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency with tools such as Grasshopper, Rhino, Dynamo, and programming languages like Python or C# is essential, along with familiarity with collaboration platforms. Strong problem-solving, communication, and self-management skills help you excel in remote settings and interdisciplinary teams. These skills are crucial for creating innovative design solutions, efficiently collaborating across distances, and meeting complex project requirements.

How do remote computational designers typically collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success?

Remote computational designers often work closely with architects, engineers, and software developers through digital collaboration tools such as BIM platforms, cloud-based modeling software, and video conferencing. Regular virtual meetings, shared digital workspaces, and clear documentation help maintain effective communication and project alignment. To overcome challenges posed by physical distance, it's important for remote designers to be proactive in updates, responsive to feedback, and adaptable to different time zones. This collaborative approach ensures that design intents are accurately translated into computational models and that all team members stay informed throughout the project lifecycle.

What is remote computational design?

Remote computational design refers to the use of algorithms, programming, and digital tools to create and optimize design solutions while working from a location outside of a traditional office. Professionals in this field leverage software like Grasshopper, Rhino, or Autodesk Dynamo to automate and enhance the design process for architecture, engineering, or product development. Working remotely, these designers collaborate with teams and clients through digital communication platforms, enabling flexibility and global cooperation.

At Harvey Performance Company, we're more than a team; we're a community. Our thriving, dynamic, and rapidly expanding organization values community, celebrates success, and fosters personal and professional growth opportunities.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Design Engineer applies concept development, simulation, computational modeling, and digital design activities. This position ensures engineering decisions are grounded in rigorous analysis and expert technical evaluation prior to physical testing. The Design Engineer exercises discretion in selecting analytical methods, interpreting data, and making recommendations that directly influence product development outcomes.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
  • Develop and manage computational models and analysis tools in MATLAB to support performance prediction, optimization and data processing
  • Build accurate FEA and simulation models that reflect realistic material behavior, loading conditions and boundary constraints
  • Evaluate and interpret analytical predictions with empirical test results to improve model fidelity
  • Maintain and continuously improve simulation standards, modeling templates and computational best practices
  • Create detailed 3D models and productionready prints using advanced CAD methodologies supported by tolerance analysis
  • Generate, validate and release initial tool programs using platforms such as Tool Studio, VGpro and Numroto
  • Maintain comprehensive technical design logs documenting analytical assumptions, engineering reasoning, and design decisions
  • Create and manage engineering data imports to ensure accurate product creation, release, and traceability across enterprise systems
  • Ensure precise transfer of geometry, program data, and BOM structures into crossfunctional systems, and resolve discrepancies or technical issues
  • Provide technical documentation and guidance to manufacturing, operations, and supply chain stakeholders
  • Demonstrates ongoing industry engagement around best practices and trends through professional study, field visits, tradeshows, and literature review.
YOU’LL BRING:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related field, advanced degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in design engineering, preferably in tooling, precision components or manufacturing environments
  • Proficiency in advanced CAD modeling (SolidWorks)
  • Proficiency in MATLAB for data analysis, modeling, optimization or automation
  • Familiarity with tool grinding and related CAM platforms (ToolStudio, VGPro, Mastercam, NX)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical decisions and engineering rationale across functional teams
  • High degree of accuracy, discipline, and professional judgment in documentation and revision control
  • Proficiency with computational fluid dynamics and finite element analysis software (XFlow, AdvantEdge)

    WHERE YOU'LL WORK:
    • This role is remote, with the expectation that candidates are located within a reasonable driving distance of one of our U.S. facilities to support occasional onsite work, collaboration, and project needs. U.S. locations include Gorham, ME; Rowley, MA; Cuyahoga Falls, OH; Meridian, ID; and Valencia, CA.
    WHAT HARVEY PROVIDES:
    • A fun, rapid-growing environment where new opportunities are regularly made available.
    • Opportunities for training and development, including tuition reimbursement.
    • A comprehensive benefits package, including PTO, paid holidays, health, dental, vision insurance, employee equity program, and a 401k match program, along with profit sharing.
    • A fun, rapid-growing environment where new opportunities are regularly made available.
    • Exceptional Employee Referral Program.
    • Relocation Assistance provided for candidates who are not local to the area.
