A Day in the Life

As a Senior Air QualitySpecialist,you will report to the ServiceLeadwithin ourAir Permitting and Compliance(Air P&C) Service Line.You will play a key technical rolein a broad range of projects across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. This hybrid or remote position can be located anywhere in Western Canada.

The compensation range for this permanent position is $90,000 to $140,000, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location. We are also committed to flexible work hours and schedules, team-based work, and cross-training opportunities.

To thrive in this role, you'll be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in and promote the strong safety culture at Onterris

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership on regulatory permit applications

  • Conduct air emission calculations to support air assessments for a variety of market sectors (this includes oil and gas, midstream, mining, power generation and transmission, petrochemicals, and infrastructure)

  • Complete reviews of projects' technical content and strategy

  • Execute dispersion modelling assessments of varying complexity for permitting and incident assessment scenarios

  • Execute annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions calculations, reviews, and verification support

  • Support and mentor junior and intermediate team members

  • Manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets

  • Ensure effective internal communication and collaboration to deliver high-quality products that meet our clients' unique project needs

  • Coordinate with internal project teams across various disciplines, including engineers, environmental scientists, technicians, physicists, and chemists

  • Manage client communications and expectations

  • Prepare technical correspondence, proposals, work plans, and cost estimates

  • Function effectively within and contribute to the success of a collaborative team

  • Contribute to business development activities to search out and identify opportunities to expand the scope and breadth of services we provide our existing clients as well as contribute to the development of new clients

  • Proactively engage in development opportunities to support your career growth

Your Expertise and Skills

These requirements reflect the knowledge, skills and abilities that help you do your best work here.

  • 10+ years of experience in regulatory compliance and permitting in Western Canada, specifically air related regulatory impact assessment and reporting dispersion modelling, permitting and compliance strategy

  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Environmental Science or related field

  • Professional registration in good standing with a Canadian engineering licensing board, or the ability to achieve the designation is an asset

  • Expertise in air emissions quantification, including GHG annual reporting and Emissions Performance Standards (EPS)

  • Experience with AERMOD modelling software is a requirement, experience with other dispersion models such as CalPuff, MOVES, Phast, and Aloha is an asset

  • Successful execution of modelling assessments required to support Environmental Impact Assessments (i.e. acid deposition modelling, visibility modelling, etc.)

  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to interpret current regulations, permitting and legislation in federal and provincial jurisdictions

  • Demonstrated experience providing technical support and strategy and delivering projects on schedule and on budget.

  • Ability to effectively manage projects and business development efforts of various sizes and complexity simultaneously

  • Demonstrated expertise in conveying complex concepts in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and written

  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to prioritize effectively

  • Ability to travel with a valid and clean Canadian driver's license with no restrictions

  • Located in Western Canada
