What is a remote commerce writer?

A Remote Commerce Writer is a professional who creates content designed to inform and influence readers about products and services, typically for digital publications or e-commerce platforms. Working remotely, they research products, write reviews, buying guides, and promotional articles that help drive online sales and affiliate revenue. Their work often involves SEO optimization, collaborating with editors and marketing teams, and staying updated on the latest trends in e-commerce. This role requires strong writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently from any location.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote commerce writer?

To thrive as a Remote Commerce Writer, you need strong writing skills, a keen understanding of SEO, and familiarity with digital content strategies, often supported by a degree in journalism, communications, or a related field. Proficiency in content management systems (like WordPress), affiliate marketing platforms, and analytics tools is typically required. Excellent time management, adaptability, and effective communication skills help you meet deadlines and collaborate remotely with editors and teams. These abilities ensure that commerce content is engaging, optimized for search, and drives revenue while maintaining editorial standards.

How does a remote commerce writer typically collaborate with editors and other team members when working from different locations?

As a Remote Commerce Writer, you'll regularly collaborate with editors, SEO specialists, and sometimes product or affiliate teams through digital communication tools like Slack, email, and project management platforms. Editors usually provide assignments, feedback, and deadlines, while team meetings (often held via video calls) help ensure alignment on content strategy and priorities. Clear, proactive communication is essential, as is the ability to adapt to asynchronous workflows and shared documents. This collaborative, digital-first environment allows for flexibility but requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills to maintain productivity and meet goals.

Job description

Job Title: Lead WMS Consultant
Job Location: Atlanta, GA, United States (Onsite/Hybrid) or fully remote within the United States for exceptional candidates.
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hiring Timeline: Immediate
Reporting Line: Co-Founder & COO
Travel Expectations: Up to 50-75% travel, based on customer requirements.
Existing Vacancy: Yes
Application Deadline: Open until Filled
Salary Range: 115K - 130K USD per year (negotiable)
About Fulfillment IQ (FIQ):
Fulfillment IQ is a supply chain engineering and transformation company that helps brands, retailers, and 3PLs design, build, and scale high-performance logistics operations.
We work at the intersection of strategy, operations, and technology, where we solve complex, real-world problems across warehouse design, automation, order management, transportation, and end-to-end supply chain execution.
Our teams combine deep domain expertise with strong technical capability, delivering outcomes through consulting, systems implementation, and proprietary platforms that accelerate time-to-value and reduce delivery risk.
If you enjoy working in complex environments, partnering closely with clients, and seeing your work make a tangible impact on how global commerce moves, this is the place where your skills and judgment truly come to life.
Role Overview:
This role supports a client engagement with a leading MHE (Material Handling Equipment) provider. The primary focus is WCS (Warehouse Control System) integration between WMS platforms and third-party robotics systems (e.g., goods-to-person, put walls, conveyor/sortation, ASRS), rather than ground-up WMS configuration alone.
You'll work with mid-sized clients (not large enterprise accounts) across the East Coast, partnering closely with local, onshore development teams and, in many cases, international robotics vendor teams based in Asia or Europe. This is a genuinely hybrid functional/technical seat: you'll be expected to sit comfortably between operations, IT, and the robotics vendor, not purely in one lane.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support WMS-to-robotics integration projects, including goods-to-person, conveyor/sortation, ASRS, and put-to-light/pick-to-light systems.
  • Analyze business, functional, and integration requirements to design effective, scalable WMS/WCS solutions.
  • Configure core WMS modules (Inbound, Outbound, Inventory, Returns, Picking, Shipping) as needed to support the broader automation integration.
  • Troubleshoot MHE messaging issues end-to-end: tracing an unprocessed or failed message back to its source job/process, determining severity and impact, and resolving root cause rather than just symptoms.
  • Support technical determinations for endpoints, ports, and message formats as part of integration setup and troubleshooting.
  • Write, review, and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures (e.g., Oracle, MSSQL) to support inventory adjustments, order-header updates, and wave/allocation logic, particularly in QA and production troubleshooting scenarios.
  • Partner with clients and stakeholders during SIT, UAT, go-live, and post-go-live phases, including live, onsite troubleshooting alongside client product managers.
  • Lead or participate in issue/bridge calls during critical incidents, presenting root-cause analysis to client stakeholders (warehouse managers, SMEs, support teams).
  • Exercise sound judgment on scope and schedule, clearly communicating to clients when a late-breaking requirement threatens an established go-live date, and helping identify true MVP scope.
  • Collaborate with local, onshore developers as well as international robotics vendor teams, adapting communication and troubleshooting approaches accordingly.
  • Maintain high-quality documentation: design docs, technical specifications, test plans, runbooks, and configuration records.
  • Mentor or guide less experienced consultants, analysts, or support staff as needed.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • 6-10+ years of experience in WMS implementations or supply chain execution systems, ideally spanning multiple full end-to-end implementations and go-lives (not solely support-ticket-level exposure).
  • Strong techno-functional background, comfortable operating as a hybrid "super user" bridging business/operations and IT, rather than a purely functional or purely developer profile.
  • Direct, hands-on experience integrating WMS with MHE/automation systems, robotics platforms (e.g., Geek+, Locus Robotics, Exotec, iRobot, or comparable), conveyor/sortation, or ASRS.
  • Genuine working proficiency in SQL, able to write and troubleshoot stored procedures, joins, and updates directly (not just read or review), on Oracle, MSSQL, or a comparable platform.
  • Deep understanding of warehouse workflows: receiving, put-away, wave/allocation logic, picking, packing, shipping, and returns.
  • Hands-on experience with put-to-light and pick-to-light systems, and general familiarity with warehouse floor hardware (RF guns, printers, label formats).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot MHE messaging issues methodically, tracing problems back to source rather than reacting to symptoms alone.
  • Proven client-facing experience: running go-lives, leading issue/bridge calls, and communicating directly with client stakeholders under pressure.
  • Comfortable with 50-75% travel, including occasional weekend work during go-live windows.
  • Ability to work effectively with both local, onshore teams and international, offshore robotics vendor teams.

Preferred / Nice to Have:
  • Direct experience with Hy-Tek Intralogistics or their proprietary WMS (IntraOne).
  • Direct experience with Geek+, Locus Robotics, or Exotec specifically.
  • Experience acting as a design lead on multi-building or multi-site WMS rollouts.
  • Experience mentoring junior consultants or analysts.

What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days:
30 Days:
  • Complete onboarding on the client engagement model, active projects, and FIQ's tools (SQL environments, API testing, ticketing/documentation systems).
  • Review current WMS-to-robotics integration architecture, message flows, and existing design documentation across assigned projects.
  • Build familiarity with the specific robotics platforms in use on assigned client projects (e.g., Geek+, Locus, Exotec, or conveyor/ASRS systems), and meet key stakeholders on both the client and vendor side.

60 Days:
  • Independently lead design workshops and requirements-validation sessions for at least one active workstream.
  • Own root-cause investigation and resolution for MHE integration issues, including SQL-based troubleshooting in QA/production environments.
  • Begin leading client-facing calls (SIT/UAT support, issue/bridge calls), including direct interaction with international robotics vendor teams.

90 Days:
  • Fully own solution design and delivery for assigned workstreams, with clear traceability between requirements and proposed solutions.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment on scope/schedule risk, having successfully guided at least one MVP-scope conversation with a client near a go-live.
  • Be a trusted point of escalation for less experienced consultants on the account, mentoring as needed.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Customer Success: Requirements captured accurately; high client satisfaction; successful go-live and post-go-live support.
  • Integration Quality: WMS-to-robotics integrations function reliably, with issues traced to root cause and resolved durably rather than patched.
  • Delivery Discipline: Clear, proactive communication on scope/schedule risk, with MVP boundaries respected near go-live.
  • Collaboration: Effective, positive working relationships with both local development teams and international robotics vendor teams.
  • Documentation Quality: Design docs, technical specs, and runbooks are complete, clear, and actionable.
