Job description

Title: Manager, Software Development (Broadcom CA 2E)

Position Summary

The Manager of Software Development is a senior technology leader responsible for executing the software development strategy for a subset of Life Components, which includes ID3, ATS, and CIS. These solutions are core to managing the digital life insurance value chain, through all aspects of policy administration for a Life or Annuity policy.

This role blends strategic oversight with hands-on technical leadership to ensure the delivery of scalable, secure, compliant, and innovative solutions that drive the modernization of the Life insurance business. The Manager exclusively leads the development team, partners closely with Product Management, Cloud Operations, and Business stakeholders, and plays a key role in enabling customer-centric enrichment within the ID3 ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Assist with overseeing execution of the customer driven solutions for ID3, ensuring customer success and alignment with business unit objectives and product strategies.
  • Support the Vice President of Technical Services to harmonize business goals, technical strategy, and product innovation.
  • Lead interaction with Cloud Services for implementation of all hosting related services for ID3.
  • Champion ID3 standard engineering practices.
  • Stay current with Broadcom CA 2E, CA 2ECM, and IBM i updates.

2. Technical Ownership & Delivery

  • Oversee adherence to the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle - architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Ensure high standards for software quality, performance, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee production support for hosted clients - for example; On call schedules and support, ID3 batch scheduling and processing, and IBM i LPAR utilization and capacity planning.
  • Support adoption of AI/ML-based tools to enhance productivity.

3. People Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, inspire, and develop software developers.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning across the offshore teams.
  • Communicate clear career pathways and mentorship for technical leads and emerging leaders.

4. Governance, Quality & Risk Management

  • Uphold development governance frameworks for release management, change control, and code quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Life insurance regulations and data protection mandates (e.g., privacy, SOC2, and local jurisdictional standards).
  • Monitor and report on engineering KPIs/OKRs - velocity, defect rates, release predictability, and production stability.
  • Lead post-mortems and continuous improvement cycles to strengthen delivery excellence and reduce systemic risks.

5. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate complex technical strategies and trade-offs effectively to executive leadership, clients, and non-technical audiences.
  • Present program progress, risks, and opportunities with clarity, confidence, and data-driven insight.
  • Act as a trusted technology advisor in internal strategy sessions and external client or industry forums.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of software development experience, including 5+ years in senior or manager-level leadership.
  • Knowledge of Broadcom CA 2E (Synon).
  • Basic knowledge of IBM i COBOL.
  • Extensive knowledge of IBM i, System i, iSeries, or AS/400 platforms.
  • Exposure to ACORD standards is a plus.
  • Proven experience in delivering enterprise-scale software within the Life insurance or broader Insurtech industry.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership presence and ability to drive alignment among cross-functional and executive partners.
