We are UMG, the Universal Music Group. We are the world's leading music company. In everything we do, we are committed to artistry, innovation and entrepreneurship. We own and operate a broad array of businesses engaged in recorded music, music publishing, merchandising, and audiovisual content in more than 60 countries. We identify and develop recording artists and songwriters, and we produce, distribute and promote the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful music to delight and entertain fans around the world.
Calling all aspiring data engineers! Join the Global Data and Analytics group at Universal Music Group. We are offering US-Remote co-op positions in fall 2026 in the field of data engineering.
How we LEAD:
Data Engineering:
As a member of the team, you'll handle evolving, scaling, and productionizing the core platform codebases to enable additional features and use cases and improve overall reliability. Additionally, you'll work with technical and business stakeholders to design new data pipelines on top of the platform and then support the technical implementation of these designs. You'll also have the opportunity to apply experience from academic projects or hands-on work with AI agentic frameworks and AI-assisted development tools, such as Codex or Gemini Code Assist CLI, to improve engineering workflows, accelerate prototyping, support code generation, and explore automation opportunities across data pipeline development. More broadly, you'll work in a collaborative Agile environment with involvement in all aspects of the software development lifecycle and act as a champion of the latest in data engineering best practices.
How you'll CREATE:
  • Work under the guidance of a senior team member to support the data platform by collaborating with cross-functional teams and assisting in building and maintaining data pipelines and databases using APIs and tools like BigQuery
  • Support the development of cloud-based data platforms (including UMG's Customer Data Platform) and help ensure data is accessible and usable
  • Contribute to deploying and testing systems on Google Cloud
  • Help gather data requirements and support data-driven initiatives across teams
  • Assist in researching and testing new tools or methods to improve workflows and efficiency
  • Apply knowledge from academic or personal projects (e.g., AI/ML or automation) to support prototyping and exploratory work

Bring your VIBE:
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of data pipelines, databases, and ETL/ELT concepts
  • Familiarity with Python, SQL, or similar programming languages
  • Experience or academic project work involving AI agentic frameworks, agent-based workflow automation, or AI-assisted coding tools such as Codex, Gemini Code Assist CLI, LangChain, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, or similar technologies
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure) is a plus
  • Interest in data, analytics, and building scalable systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment
  • Preferred experience in GCP, BigQuery, Airflow, Python and SQL
