Serve as an advisor & liaison to implement strategy & to support operations, projects, programs & service delivery outcomes. Responsible for the planning, implementation, coordination & evaluation of programs & strategic initiatives. Works cooperatively with various organizational levels to understand business needs & the interrelationship of issues impacting the implementation & delivery of business operations & services. Provides knowledge & expertise in programs & workstreams.

Consultation Service: Provides consultative support to Trinity Health (TH) functional area Leadership in the implementation of strategy, operational services & other initiatives.

Operation Expertise:
Provides leadership, direction & oversight of workstreams.
Responsible for the development, implementation & management of processes, policies & procedures.
Ensures processes, policies & procedures are communicated, implemented & aligned.
Serves as a technical resource of business operational services, issue resolution & implementation of recommended actions.
Facilitates & develops processes & tools.
Provides escalated support, guidance & training to department members (remotely & on-site) to use new technologies & applications, as well as to improve knowledge of existing ones. Identify the organizational improvements needed, develop systems to implement those changes & train the appropriate staff.
Project Management:
Manages & implements small to medium-scale projects, programs & initiatives.
Develops & manages aligned production, communications, service delivery plans & workflows to ensure plans are successfully implemented & services are delivered on time, within budget & to specifications.
Conducts informational training sessions with groups of various sizes & backgrounds.
Data Management & Analysis:
Research & compile information to support ad-hoc operational projects & initiatives.
Synthesizes & analyzes data & provides detailed summaries including graphical data presentations illustrating trends & recommending practical options or solutions while considering the impact on business strategy & supporting leadership decision-making.
Leverages program & operational data & measurements to define & demonstrate progress, ROI & impacts
Develops & monitors data analysis & reporting systems & communication tools.
Maintains a Working Knowledge of applicable federal, state & local laws / regulations, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance Program & Code of Conduct, as well as other policies, procedures & guidelines in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical & professional behavior & safe work practices.
Functional Role (not inclusive of titles or advancement career progression)
The Abstraction Consultant job function assignment provides oversight & leadership of systemwide surveillance of healthcare associated infections (HAIs) & core measures abstraction. Scope includes oversight of application of surveillance & abstraction criteria, collation of key data, vendor program management / maintenance, designing training / education including collaboration for program improvement & reporting to applicable agencies & / or organizations. HAIs surveillance components include application & use of Center for Disease Control's (CDC's) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) instructions to meet Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements. Abstraction relates to quality measures (e.g., Care Coordination Quality Measure (cCQM), core measures, etc.)
Areas of focus include: (not limited to)
  • Designs, develops, leads, manages, influences & / or organizes complex, enterprise-wide projects that impact regulatory compliance & measure performance for clinical data registries & other data systems (e.g. CDC's NHSN).
  • Manages vendor regulatory & registry abstraction & HAI surveillance services at all Trinity Health (TH) hospitals, ensuring data integrity & required timelines are met.
  • Lead systemwide implementation & monitor ongoing success of external vendor's work on case selection, abstraction timelines, HAI surveillance, data management, including submissions (registries & CMS requirements).
  • Collaboration with vendors, TH executives & various Health Ministry Leaders.
  • Investigates issues causing suboptimal measure outcomes, collaborates with various teams & others to ensure resolution (e.g., Epic Team, Trinity Information Services (TIS), Compliance).
  • Manages assigned clinical databases to ensure nationally accepted definitions & comparative data are accurate, complete & current, including data research analysis to support strategic objectives while maintaining proficiency in applications required for data submissions to external databases.
  • Communicate with performance improvement teams (Ministry/Market/System level) to share prepared data (e.g., statistical analysis, process flowcharts).
  • Attend Clinical Excellence Council / Clinical Leadership Group (CEC / CLG) meetings to review data & outcomes; while working to increase Regional Health Ministries (RHM) knowledge / understanding of data metrics, variables in various reports & dashboards to drive improvements.
  • Designs, develops, and supports training / education for program improvements utilizing data, analysis & collaboration for improved outcomes with various teams within / outside TH, as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree in healthcare related field from an accredited school (e.g., nursing, laboratory science (clinical microbiology), epidemiology, public health)
Certified in Infection Control (e.g., CIC, from the Certification Board of Infection Control & Epidemiology, Inc.)
Three (3) year experience in application of criteria to identify & report healthcare-associated infections (HAI) to National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN)
Valid driver's license where required by assignment
Additional Qualifications (nice to have)
Master's degree in healthcare related field from an accredited school (e.g., nursing, laboratory science (clinical microbiology), epidemiology, public health)
Experience in abstraction operations, health informatics, & / or reporting healthcare-associated infections (HAI) to National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN)
Pay Range- $100,250- $150,307
