Job description

If you're an experienced civil rights litigator who enjoys courtroom advocacy, trial strategy, and partnering closely with law enforcement and government clients, this opportunity offers the chance to take Section 1983 matters from inception through verdict while serving public entities across California.

What's in it for you? You'll have the opportunity to lead significant civil rights litigation, conduct depositions and motion practice, argue motions in limine, handle jury selection, and serve as first-chair trial counsel. The role also offers a hybrid work arrangement, with remote work permitted except for client meetings, depositions, and team meetings, plus a $200,000–$250,000 salary and an annual billable-hours bonus program.

What You'll Bring

  • 10+ years of civil rights litigation experience
  • At least 5 first-chair Section 1983 trials to verdict
  • Strong knowledge of California Evidence Code and civil procedure
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active California bar license in good standing
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Experience representing public entities or law enforcement agencies preferred

The Role

  • Manage Section 1983 civil rights litigation through verdict
  • Conduct discovery, depositions, hearings, mediations, and arbitrations
  • Handle motion practice, including motions in limine
  • Prepare briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents
  • Interview clients and witnesses and maintain case communications
  • Regularly update clients on case progress
  • Represent public entities and law enforcement agencies in high-exposure civil rights matters

The position is full-time and based in Fullerton, CA, with candidates required to live within a reasonable commuting distance. The annual billable-hours target is 1,800 hours.

Benefits include Kaiser Permanente Gold HMO B medical coverage (employer pays a significant portion of the base plan premium), Principal dental and vision (fully employer-paid), a $50,000 employer-paid life and AD&D policy with buy-up options, HSA/FSA, a SIMPLE IRA with up to a 3% employer match and immediate vesting, PTO, paid holidays where applicable, and voluntary AFLAC benefits, subject to eligibility requirements.

Salary Range: $200,000–$250,000
