This role will oversee and manage one direct report, a Senior Engineer-level position. ย

You will lead a small, distributed team of engineers (internal and vendor-supported), drive implementation standards, and ensure predictable, high-quality delivery across web and mobile surfaces. • Lead development of headless web applications using React / Next.js and native iOS and Android applications that serve millions of users daily.ย

  • Partner with Platform Engineering onย GraphQL-based APIs that power shared functionality across web and mobile.ย

  • Drive technical direction for client-side architecture, performance, accessibility, and quality standards.ย

  • Partner with Product and Design to translate roadmap initiatives into executable engineering plans.ย

  • Coordinate web and app releases, manage client-side incidents and regressions, and ensure strong post-release follow-through.ย

  • Collaborate with QA to define and enforce quality gates, test automation expectations, and release criteria.ย

  • Use analytics and data to inform decisions around performance, engagement, and experimentation.ย

  • Ensure compliance with web security, privacy, and accessibility standards.ย

Who you are:ย

  • 6+ years of experience building modern consumer-facing web and mobile applications, with prior experience in a technical leadership or engineering management role.ย

  • Demonstrated successย operatingย as a player-coach, balancing hands-on development with team leadership and delivery accountability.ย

  • Strong understanding ofย frontendย and mobile application architecture, performance optimization, and release discipline.ย

  • Experience building and operating high-traffic, ad-supported consumer applications, with a strong focus on frontend performance, reliability, and user experience.ย

  • Experience managing distributed teams and external vendors across multiple time zones.ย

  • Experience working with CMS-driven applications;ย Brightspotย experience is a plus.ย

  • Familiarity withย GraphQL-based application architectures and client-side data consumption patterns.ย

  • Experience integrating multimedia content, video platforms, identity/registration flows, and engagement features.ย

  • Working knowledge of SEO considerations, web analytics tools, and experimentation approaches.ย

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform root cause analysis and drive remediation.ย

  • Strong communicator with experience partnering closely with Product, Design, Editorial, Revenue, and QA stakeholders.ย

  • Experience working in agile development environments and leading cross-functional teams.

  • Master's or bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field (or equivalent experience).ย
