Title:Senior Systems and Network Engineer


Reports to:Director of IT


Summary of Position: The Senior Systems and Network Engineer is responsible for supporting, improving, and modernizing Blach Construction's core technology infrastructure across network, server, virtualization, endpoint, security, cloud, and business application environments. This hands-on role requires strong technical judgment, accountability, and the ability to operate effectively within a small, business-critical IT team serving Blach's San Jose headquarters, remote offices, and active job sites.


Typical Duties:

  • Support, maintain, and enhance Blach's network, server, virtualization, endpoint, and core infrastructure environments
  • Administer firewall environments, with required Palo Alto Networks experience
  • Administer and troubleshoot switching, routing, VLANs, VPNs, wireless networks, DNS, DHCP, and related connectivity services
  • Manage Windows Server environments and related infrastructure services
  • Support virtualization platforms, including VMware vSphere/ESXi and Proxmox
  • Provide technical support for remote offices, job sites, and distributed work environments
  • Support Microsoft 365 administration, identity, access management, and collaboration services
  • Manage endpoint provisioning, patching, configuration, and lifecycle
  • Support backup, recovery, monitoring, alerting, and infrastructure availability practices
  • Support database-adjacent infrastructure needs, including SQL Server environments, backups, access controls, and vendor-managed integrations
  • Partner with vendors, consultants, and internal stakeholders on application integrations, reporting environments, and data platform initiatives
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including infrastructure diagrams, runbooks, and configuration standards
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users to resolve issues and support business operations
  • Partner with IT leadership to improve infrastructure standards, security practices, and long-term scalability

Skills/Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in systems administration, network engineering, or infrastructure operations; 10+ years preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of enterprise networking: switching, routing, VLANs, VPNs, wireless, DNS, and DHCP
  • Palo Alto Networks firewall administration required; Cisco network environment experience strongly preferred
  • Experience administering Windows Server and core infrastructure services
  • Experience supporting virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere/ESXi, Proxmox, Hyper-V, or comparable)
  • Experience supporting remote offices, branch locations, or distributed work environments
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration, identity, and cloud security practices
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including backups, permissions, maintenance, and monitoring
  • Ability to partner effectively with application vendors, database consultants, and data/reporting stakeholders
  • Strong documentation skills; ability to create clear infrastructure diagrams, runbooks, and configuration standards
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong judgment, accountability, and ability to work independently within a small IT team
  • Experience in construction, AEC, or other project-based business environments a plus


Work Location: This role requires regular in-office presence at Blach's San Jose headquarters due to the hands-on nature of the work. Limited remote work may be available with manager approval based on business needs and performance.


Position Status:Full-time, regular business hours, exempt
