What is a remote chemical engineering faculty?

Remote chemical engineering faculty are educators who teach chemical engineering courses and conduct related research while working off-campus, typically from a home or remote office. They use online platforms to deliver lectures, interact with students, assess coursework, and collaborate with colleagues. These positions may be full-time or part-time and require strong communication and technology skills to facilitate effective virtual learning. Remote faculty often participate in curriculum development, academic advising, and university service, just like their on-campus counterparts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote chemical engineering faculty?

To thrive as a Remote Chemical Engineering Faculty, you need an advanced degree in chemical engineering (typically a Ph.D.), a strong research background, and teaching experience in higher education. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas or Blackboard, virtual lab software, and online communication tools is essential. Excellent communication, time management, and the ability to engage and motivate students remotely are important soft skills. These competencies ensure effective instruction, student engagement, and academic excellence in a virtual learning environment.

What are the main challenges of teaching chemical engineering courses remotely, and how can I overcome them?

One of the main challenges of being a Remote Chemical Engineering Faculty member is effectively engaging students and delivering complex material without in-person lab access. To overcome this, many faculty use virtual labs, interactive simulations, and collaborative online platforms to replicate hands-on experiences. Establishing clear communication channels, offering regular office hours, and leveraging technology for real-time feedback are also essential. Building a strong online presence and fostering community among students can further enhance their learning and your teaching effectiveness.

What is the difference between Remote Chemical Engineering Faculty vs Remote Chemical Engineering Lecturer?

Job description

This role is for one of our clients
Compensation: $65-$90 per hour
We're building a select group of experienced chemical engineers to help improve how advanced AI systems understand, evaluate, and reason about chemical engineering concepts. In this role, you'll apply your industry expertise to review AI-generated content, answer technical questions, and provide insights that improve the accuracy, reliability, and practical value of AI systems used in chemical engineering applications.
This is a flexible, fully remote, part-time opportunity requiring approximately 10 hours per week, with the potential for ongoing collaboration based on project needs and performance.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate AI-generated content related to chemical engineering for technical accuracy, completeness, and real-world applicability.
  • Provide clear, well-supported answers and expert feedback based on your professional engineering experience.
  • Recommend authoritative technical references, engineering standards, and industry resources relevant to your area of expertise.
  • Share insights into real-world chemical engineering workflows, process design, plant operations, safety practices, and engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary subject matter experts to improve AI model quality and consistency across technical domains.
  • Identify inaccuracies, ambiguities, and opportunities to enhance AI-generated engineering responses.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
  • 2+ years of professional chemical engineering experience, preferably across multiple areas such as process design, process safety, plant operations, manufacturing, or production engineering.
  • Strong familiarity with industry standards and regulations, including OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM), API, and other relevant engineering guidelines.
  • Hands-on experience with process simulation and engineering software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, MATLAB, or similar tools.
  • Experience preparing process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), technical reports, or engineering training materials is preferred.
  • Comfortable using modern AI tools such as ChatGPT or similar platforms.
  • Based in the United States.
  • Professional-level English communication skills.
  • Able to consistently commit approximately 10 hours per week.
Engagement Details
  • Independent contractor engagement.
  • Fully remote with flexible working hours.
  • Project duration may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on business needs and performance.
  • Weekly payments are made through Stripe or Wise based on completed work.
  • Please note: We are unable to support H1-B or STEM OPT candidates at this time.
