What is a remote carpenter?

A Remote Carpenter works on woodworking, furniture-making, or construction projects from a remote location, often using digital collaboration tools. They may design, fabricate, and assemble components in a personal workshop before shipping them to clients or job sites. Some remote carpenters also provide virtual consultations, 3D modeling, or instructional content. This role requires strong technical skills, self-motivation, and efficient communication to coordinate with clients or teams remotely.

What are the typical daily responsibilities for a remote carpenter?

As a Remote Carpenter, your day often involves reviewing digital blueprints or project instructions, collaborating virtually with clients or team members to clarify project specifications, and constructing or repairing wooden structures in your own workshop or on-site as needed. You may also be tasked with sourcing materials, maintaining tools, and documenting progress or issues through digital platforms. Effective communication is essential, as many updates and approvals are handled via email or video meetings. This structure allows you to handle multiple projects simultaneously and maintain flexibility while providing quality workmanship from a remote location.

To thrive as a Remote Carpenter, you need strong carpentry skills, a solid understanding of construction methods, and prior experience in woodworking or building, often supported by relevant trade certifications or apprenticeships. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and self-motivation are crucial to effectively manage remote work and interact with clients or team members at a distance. These qualities enable you to deliver high-quality craftsmanship, meet client expectations, and successfully complete projects without direct on-site supervision.

Job description

Commercial Carpentry Estimator – General Contractor

Location: Wyckoff, NJ (Onsite, Remote, or Hybrid)

Salary: $125,000 - $165,000 (Based on Experience)

Sponsorship: Not Available

About the Company:

About Our Client:

Our client is a thriving carpentry business based in Northern New Jersey, specializing in light gauge metal framing, gypsum board, ceilings, and door/frame installations. They handle renovations and new construction, serving various sectors, including commercial, industrial, storage, high-rise, and retail. Their expertise spans retrofits, renovations of existing buildings, and complete carpentry fit-outs for industrial, logistical, and residential spaces. With a commitment to precision and excellence, they are seeking an experienced Commercial Carpentry Estimator to join their team and contribute to the success of their growing portfolio.

The Role:

As a Commercial Carpentry Estimator, you will analyze blueprints, prepare detailed cost estimates, and ensure competitive and profitable bids. You’ll collaborate closely with project managers, helping to transition bids into well-executed builds for warehouse, retail, and office fit-out projects.

Please Note:

  • This can be onsite or even a hybrid or remote role
  • This is not an Interior Estimator role. While interior estimators typically focus on high-end finishes such as millwork, flooring, wall coverings, and specialty interior elements, this position is specifically for structural and commercial carpentry. It involves metal framing, drywall, ceilings, and door/frame installations—critical components of the building’s core structure rather than decorative interior details.
  • Must have experience with Production Labor Costs

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate project plans and specifications to determine scope, materials, and labor requirements.
  • Perform material takeoffs and labor cost assessments with precision.
  • Use estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam) to generate accurate cost estimates.
  • Solicits and analyzes bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Prepare detailed proposals and bid submissions within required deadlines.
  • Coordinate with project managers to facilitate a smooth transition from bid to build.
  • To enhance estimating accuracy, stay informed on industry trends, labor costs, and material pricing.

What You Bring:

  • 5–10 years of commercial estimating experience in carpentry and interior trades.
  • Expertise in metal framing, drywall, ceilings, and door installations.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Procore, etc.).
  • Familiarity with NJ/NY construction markets is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities for vendor coordination.

Why Join Our Client?

  • Competitive salary: $125,000 to $ 165,000 + potential performance bonuses.
  • Comprehensive benefits: Health insurance, 401(k) with company match.
  • Career growth opportunities within a fast-paced, expanding company.
  • Exciting, high-impact projects that shape commercial spaces across NJ and NY.

If you’re a detail-oriented Commercial Carpentry Estimator looking for an on-site role with a company that values precision, quality, and innovation, we’d love to hear from you!

To apply, please submit your resume, project list, bid samples and salary expectations.
