The Associate Manager Functional Shelf  role supports the Functional/Protein business by translating shopper behavior, shelf dynamics, category performance, and retail insights into actionable strategies that drive category growth and business results. This role leads the development and execution of shopper learning plans across key retail partners, leveraging primary research, syndicated data, and category insights to uncover opportunities that influence merchandising, assortment, shelving, and shopper engagement strategies.

Operating as a strategic partner across Shopper Insights, Category Management, Commercialization, and Sales, the role helps connect consumer and shopper understanding with business priorities to shape customer conversations and category growth plans. The position combines analytical rigor, intellectual curiosity, and strong cross-functional collaboration to deliver insights that influence decision making, strengthen customer partnerships, and support long-term growth for both Hershey and the category.

What will you do?
Lead Shopper Learning Plans and Insight Generation

Develop and execute annual learning plans across key retail customers to identify growth opportunities for the Functional/Protein business and category. Leverage multiple research methodologies, shopper insights, and business analytics to uncover actionable findings that inform commercial strategies and drive category growth.

Lead Shelf and Shopping Behavior Research

Design and manage foundational shopper research programs focused on center store and shelf dynamics, including virtual reality shelf testing, sorting exercises, test-and-learn initiatives, overhead camera studies, customer decision trees, and other qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Translate results into recommendations that improve shopper experiences and business performance.

Deliver Strategic Insights and Category Recommendations

Analyze shopper, consumer, category, and marketplace data to identify trends, opportunities, and performance drivers. Synthesize findings into clear narratives and recommendations that support merchandising, assortment, shelving, activation, and broader category strategies.

Develop Category Playbooks and Best Practices

Partner with internal stakeholders to develop annual playbooks, gold standard principles, and category guidance that can be leveraged across retailers and business teams. Serve as a subject matter expert in key customer-facing engagements, including Joint Business Planning meetings, line reviews, and category growth discussions.

Partner Across Functions to Drive Business Impact

Collaborate with Shopper Insights, Category Management, Commercialization, Sales, Analytics, and other cross-functional teams to align priorities, share learning, and ensure insights are effectively integrated into business decisions and execution plans.

Support Customer and Commercial Strategy Development

Serve as a strategic insights partner to the Category Management Activation and Execution team by providing research, analytical support, and shopper expertise that strengthen customer strategies, priorities, and category recommendations.

Influence Decision Making Through Insight Leadership

Build strong relationships with stakeholders across multiple organizational levels and communicate complex findings in a clear, compelling manner. Influence business decisions by providing credible insights and recommendations that shape customer engagement strategies, growth initiatives, and shopper-focused business plans.

Minimum Education & Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in Shopper Insights, Consumer Insights, Market Research, Category Management, Business Intelligence, Analytics, or a related insights discipline.
  • Experience designing, executing, and interpreting qualitative and quantitative research studies.
  • Experience analyzing shopper, consumer, category, retail, POS, and/or panel data to generate actionable business recommendations.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing presentations and commercial decision-making is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of shopper, consumer, and category insights methodologies and data sources.
  • Strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative research techniques and applications.
  • Ability to synthesize multiple data sources into clear, actionable insights and business recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and passion for understanding shopper behavior.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and presentation skills.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building capabilities with internal and external partners.
  • Experience with POS, panel, syndicated, and other category data sources preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Market Research, Consumer Behavior, Marketing, Business Analytics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree is preferred
