What is a remote CAD?

Remote CAD jobs offer the ability to work from home while completing responsibilities related to computer-aided design and drafting. You can find positions as an engineer or computer software designer. You use technology to fulfill duties involving the creation of drawings and models on the computer. You telecommute with other members of your team to draft ideas and properly document your project. CAD technicians and CAD engineers create plans for buildings, equipment, and machinery before it reaches the construction stage.

What is a remote CAD?

Remote CAD jobs involve using computer-aided design (CAD) software to create, modify, or review technical drawings and plans from a remote location, such as your home or another off-site workspace. These positions allow professionals like engineers, architects, and designers to collaborate with teams and clients virtually, leveraging tools and cloud-based platforms to share and edit files. Remote CAD jobs offer flexibility, but still require strong technical skills, communication abilities, and reliable internet connectivity to meet project deadlines and standards.

How do remote CAD professionals typically collaborate with engineering and design teams?

Remote CAD professionals often work closely with engineering and design teams using cloud-based CAD platforms, project management tools, and regular virtual meetings. Effective communication and clear documentation are key, as sharing design files, providing updates, and receiving feedback must happen digitally. Tools like Autodesk BIM 360, Microsoft Teams, and Slack are commonly used to streamline collaboration and ensure everyone stays aligned on project goals and revisions. Remote CAD roles require strong organizational skills and proactive communication to overcome the lack of in-person interaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote CAD designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote CAD Designer, you need proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, a solid understanding of engineering or architectural principles, and typically a relevant degree or certification. Expertise with tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Revit, as well as familiarity with file sharing and project management systems, is essential. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for collaborating remotely and managing independent workloads. These skills ensure high-quality, accurate designs and seamless collaboration in a distributed work environment.

Job description

Applied AI Engineer 5425

3-Month Contract-to-Hire

Fully Remote in EST possibly with some travel (5-10%)

U.S. Citizens and Green Card holders only

Why This Opportunity?

This is a chance to become the second member of a newly formed AI team and help shape the future of AI across a growing $800M organization.

You'll partner directly with the AI Team Lead to own and evolve an AI-powered platform while identifying new opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and intelligent workflows across the business.

If you're looking for a role where you can combine AI engineering, product thinking, customer interaction, and business impact, this is it.

What You'll Be Working On

The flagship product is an internally developed AI-powered platform that helps construction estimators generate takeoffs and bills of material from blueprint documents.

The platform leverages:

  • Python
  • Azure AI Services
  • PyTorch
  • React / TypeScript
  • Terraform
  • SQL

You'll own the continued success of the platform while helping build the next generation of AI-powered solutions, automations, and AI agents across the organization.

What You'll Do

Own and Improve an AI Product

  • Support and enhance a production AI application used by the business
  • Troubleshoot issues and drive continuous improvement
  • Improve system performance, reliability, and user adoption
  • Partner directly with end users to understand pain points and deliver solutions

Build AI Solutions That Matter

  • Fine-tune and optimize AI/ML models
  • Design and implement AI-driven product enhancements
  • Build AI agents and workflow automations
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify practical business use cases

Partner with the Business

  • Work directly with estimators and operational teams
  • Translate business challenges into technical solutions
  • Rapidly prototype and validate new ideas
  • Help define the future AI roadmap

What We're Looking For

Required Skills

  • Strong Python development experience
  • Experience training, tuning, deploying, and supporting AI/ML models
  • Azure or cloud-based AI platform experience
  • Strong SQL and database knowledge
  • Experience integrating APIs and third-party services
  • Familiarity with React, TypeScript, and modern web applications
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, etc.)

What Makes Someone Successful Here

  • Builder mentality
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity
  • Excellent communicator with both technical and non-technical users
  • Customer-focused mindset
  • Ability to wear multiple hats and move quickly

Nice-to-Have Experience

Not required, but highly relevant:

  • OCR and Document Intelligence
  • Construction or manufacturing workflows
  • Blueprint processing
  • CAD and PDF-based document workflows
  • Estimating and takeoff processes
  • Bluebeam

Team & Culture

You'll join a very small, highly visible team where your contributions will have an immediate impact.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys:

  • Building new capabilities from the ground up
  • Working closely with business stakeholders
  • Having a voice in technical decisions
  • Making a measurable impact instead of supporting legacy systems

The AI team is currently just the AI Team Lead and this hire, providing significant ownership and exposure from day one.

Compensation

3-Month Contract-to-Hire

The team is focused more on capability and potential than years of experience.

Target conversion ranges:

  • $85K-$105K for early-career AI engineers with the right skills
  • $130K-$150K+ for more experienced candidates

Ideal Candidate

Someone with strong AI and Python skills who wants to move beyond being "just an engineer" and become a trusted partner in building products, solving business problems, and shaping the future of AI within a growing organization.
