Job description

Want to make an impact on the data industry. Want to help Amazon building next generation data replication system that can scale to support migrating thousands of databases to AWS quickly and securely.
The AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) migrated more than 1.5M+ databases

DMS service can migrate customer data to and from the most widely used commercial and open-source databases. It supports homogeneous migrations such as Oracle to Oracle, as well as heterogeneous migrations between different database platforms, such as Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server to Amazon Aurora. DMS can also continuously replicate data with low latency from any supported source to any supported target.

For example, you can replicate from multiple sources to Amazon S3 to build a highly available and scalable data lake solution. DMS can also consolidate databases into a petabyte-scale data warehouse by streaming data to Amazon Redshift. More information on AWS DMS is available at http://aws.amazon.com/dms

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to drive improvements to the scalability and performance of the core replication engine to handle ever growing data volumes and variety of databases.
Who you are:
- Highly-motivated and thrive in an environment where problems are open-ended.
- Enjoy engaging in passionate discussions with smart people and letting the best ideas rise to the top.
- Have built applications using Java, C/C++ in Linux/Unix
- Have worked with databases and Java based technology stacks such as Spring and Hibernate
- Strong understanding of CS fundamentals, Object Oriented Design and Data Structures.
- Genuinely excited about technology, have a strong interest in learning and playing with the latest technologies.
Key job responsibilities
Our engineers collaborate across diverse teams, projects, and environments to have a firsthand impact on our global customer base. You'll bring a passion for innovation, data, search, analytics, and distributed systems

You'll also:
- Solve challenging technical problems, often ones not solved before, at every layer of the stack.
- Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.
- Build high-quality, highly available, always-on products.
- Research implementations that deliver the best possible experiences for customers.
A day in the life
As you design and code solutions to help our team drive efficiencies in software architecture, you'll create metrics, implement automation and other improvements, and resolve the root cause of software defects.
You'll also:
- Build high-impact solutions to deliver to our large customer base.
- Participate in design discussions, code review, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Work cross-functionally to help drive business decisions with your technical input.
- Work in a startup-like development environment, where you're always working on the most important stuff.

Our senior members enjoy one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects that help our team members develop your engineering expertise so you feel empowered to take on more complex tasks in the future.
AWS values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply

If your career is just starting, hasn't followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don't let it stop you from applying.
