Job description

*Telecommuting permitted: work may be performed within normal commuting distance from the Red Hat, LLC office in Raleigh, NC.

Design and develop backend features and services for large-scale distributed systems running on Kubernetes and OpenShift. Implement backend components that support automated cluster lifecycle management, provisioning, and configuration workflows.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop and integrate features that interact with virtualization and cloud platforms such as VMware vSphere (VCD/VCF), Nutanix Prism Central, and bare-metal hosts.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD automation, tooling, and pipelines to support continuous delivery and testing.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues across Linux systems, Kubernetes controllers, virtualization layers, and hardware nodes.
  • Design and maintain backend APIs (REST/gRPC), including schema definition, service-to-service communication, and OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
  • Improve performance, observability, scalability, and reliability across platform components.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on architecture design, code reviews, and engineering best practices.

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Communications Engineering or related field and five (5) years of experience in the job offered or related role.
  • Must have five (5) years of experience with: programming in Go or Python programming languages; designing and developing distributed or large-scale backend systems; developing features for Kubernetes-based platforms, including controller-runtime patterns, reconciliation loops, CRDs, and OpenShift-specific extensions such as Machine API and cluster operators; cloud-native architectures, microservices, and containerized environments; and designing, developing, and integrating backend APIs (REST or gRPC), including defining API schemas, implementing service-to-service communication, and using OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
  • Must have four (4) years of experience with: virtualization or cloud platforms, including VMware vSphere and Nutanix, as well as Prism Central and related management APIs; and working with bare-metal systems, hardware provisioning, or Linux system-level debugging.
  • Must have three (3) years of experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, specifically Prow and Jenkins.

The salary range for this position is $157,248 - $195,680/year. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Annual salary is one component of Red Hat's compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience
