Remote business analysts are professionals who analyze business processes, gather requirements, and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness, all while working from a location outside of the traditional office. They utilize digital tools to communicate with stakeholders, conduct virtual meetings, and document findings. This role requires strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote environment.

What does a remote business analyst do?

As a remote business analyst, your duties and responsibilities are to evaluate and perform analysis on different types of business information, such as price variance for products across large regions, conduct consumer product and market research, and survey consumers to gain more information for your business or client. Business analysts often evaluate internal processes as well and provide recommendations for ways to improve efficiency, cut costs, or expand services throughout the organization, such as by implementing new technology, rationalizing logistics, and streamlining project budgets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote business analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Business Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, and a background in business, finance, or information technology, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with data analysis tools (like Excel, SQL, Tableau), requirements management software (such as Jira or Confluence), and virtual collaboration platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for effectively gathering requirements and collaborating with distributed teams. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and proactive communication are essential to bridge the distance and ensure alignment on project goals. While working remotely, setting clear expectations and maintaining transparency helps streamline workflows and keeps everyone engaged. Many organizations also encourage remote analysts to participate in virtual workshops or brainstorming sessions to foster a sense of teamwork.

Job description

Overview

VTG is seeking an Agile Business Analyst to serve as a vKesi Configurator supporting Air Force IT modernization efforts. In this role, you will provide full lifecycle capability for vKesi configurations and use cases, translating mission and business needs into configured, tested, and documented system solutions.

This position serves as a critical liaison between technical teams, functional users, and senior stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings a solid technical foundation, hands-on business process modeling experience, and the communication skills required to build trust and drive alignment across cross-functional teams and leadership.

What will you do?

Configuration & Solution Delivery:

  • Provide full lifecycle capability for vKesi configurations and use cases, from requirements intake through configuration, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
  • Design, document, and implement configuration changes, system enhancements, and workflow automations in coordination with technical teams.
  • Apply system design and user interface principles when defining and implementing configurations and enhancements.
  • Define and document acceptance criteria used by the delivery team to validate completed work.
  • Support solution assessment and validation activities, including user acceptance testing and post-deployment verification.
  • Develop and execute testing activities using established testing methodology, including validation of user roles and permissions.
  • Maintain configuration documentation, change records, and traceability between requirements and delivered capability.

Business Analysis & Process Modeling:

  • Solicit, analyze, and document business requirements, processes, and workflows from functional stakeholders.
  • Understand client organizations, problem sets, and the intent behind client needs to develop requirements for process redesign and optimization.
  • Develop and maintain business process models to optimize workflows and improve operational efficiency.
  • Map current-state and future-state processes using Visio or comparable tools, producing as-is and to-be business use cases, business process flow diagrams, and value stream maps.
  • Analyze and adapt processes for implementation across differing technical and functional organizations.
  • Identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities, and recommend practical solutions to leadership.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:

  • Engage stakeholders through regular face-to-face and virtual interaction โ€” providing status updates, gathering requirements, and confirming alignment with mission objectives.
  • Prepare for, facilitate, lead, and manage client interactions, working sessions, and relationships to drive alignment and decisions.
  • Translate technical information and concepts into clear, non-technical language for functional users and senior leaders.
  • Develop and maintain trusted partnerships with government customers, end users, and teammates.
  • Author programmatic documents, operating instructions, user guides, training and communication materials, organizational change management and support materials, and success stories.

Program Support & Compliance:

  • Assist with Cost Sharing Model management and reporting to support resource allocation and financial planning.
  • Operate within a custom Agile framework, supporting backlog refinement, sprint planning, and incremental delivery ceremonies.
  • Plan and manage project deliverables to an established timeline, tracking progress and dependencies to meet commitments.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable security, cybersecurity, and operational standards, including within classified environments.
  • Identify, prioritize, and execute tasks independently while meeting commitments in a dynamic environment.

Do you have what it takes?

Required qualifications:
