What is a remote building code inspector?

A Remote Building Code Inspector is a professional who evaluates construction projects for compliance with building codes and regulations, but performs inspections virtually rather than in person. Using digital tools such as video calls, photographs, and specialized software, they review construction progress and completed work from a remote location. This approach allows for greater flexibility and efficiency, especially for projects in remote or hard-to-access areas. Remote inspectors typically communicate with onsite personnel to obtain necessary documentation and visuals to ensure all codes and safety standards are met.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote building code inspector?

To thrive as a Remote Building Code Inspector, you need in-depth knowledge of building codes, construction practices, and inspection procedures, typically backed by relevant certifications such as ICC or state licensure. Familiarity with virtual inspection technology, digital reporting tools, and project management software is crucial for remote work. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities set outstanding inspectors apart. These skills and qualities ensure thorough, accurate inspections and compliance, even when working off-site, to maintain safety and regulatory standards.

How does a remote building code inspector effectively communicate and collaborate with on-site teams and clients?

Remote Building Code Inspectors rely heavily on digital tools to conduct inspections and maintain clear communication with on-site project managers, contractors, and property owners. Typically, they review digital documentation, photos, and live video feeds to assess compliance and provide feedback. Regular virtual meetings and written reports help address questions, clarify findings, and ensure all parties understand the next steps. Building strong relationships and setting clear expectations are key to overcoming the challenges of not being physically present at the inspection site.

Both roles require similar certifications and are used within the building and construction industry, but their core responsibilities differ in scope and focus.

Is there a demand for remote building code inspectors?

Remote building code inspectors are in increasing demand as remote work technology improves and building safety regulations evolve. Many jurisdictions are adopting digital inspection processes, which can require inspectors to have knowledge of building codes, inspection tools, and remote communication skills. About the Role

ย The Forward Deployed Engineer sits at the intersection of engineering and client success - embedded directly with customers to implement, customize, and scale the product in their environment. This isn't a back-office engineering role: the FDE owns the outcome of deployment, from technical integration through adoption, and is often the primary technical voice the client interacts with post-sale.

What You'll Own:

Deployment & Integration

  • Lead technical onboarding and implementation for new clients, configuring the product to fit their workflows, data, and systems
  • Build custom integrations, scripts, or lightweight tools to bridge gaps between the core product and each client's existing stack
  • Translate ambiguous client requirements into a scoped technical plan and execute it independently

Client-Facing Technical Ownership

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned accounts during and after rollout
  • Run technical discovery calls and debug issues live with client stakeholders
  • Communicate solutions in terms non-technical audiences can act on
  • Identify recurring friction points across clients and feed them back to product and engineering as structured input

Iteration & Scale

  • Monitor deployed solutions for reliability and performance, fixing or flagging issues before the client notices
  • Document deployment patterns and reusable components so future rollouts move faster
  • Balance delivery speed against long-term durability of deployed solutions

Requirements

Must-Have

  • 3+ years in a software engineering role with direct client- or field-facing exposure (solutions engineering, implementation engineering, or technical consulting)
  • Full-stack or backend proficiency with hands-on production code experience - reading and writing code, not configuration-only work
  • Demonstrated experience building custom integrations, scripts, or internal tooling to connect a core product with external client systems
  • Track record of owning technical implementations end-to-end: scoping, building, shipping, and supporting
  • Experience running technical discovery sessions or live debugging with client stakeholders
  • C1+ English (CEFR) - primary technical contact for US-based client accounts

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with API integrations, webhooks, and common auth patterns (OAuth, SSO)
  • Background in a startup or agency environment with rapidly shifting client requirements
  • Familiarity with data pipelines, ETL, or scripting (Python preferred)
  • Prior role blending sales engineering or customer success with hands-on coding

Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: Based on experience and skills
  • Remote Work: Fully remote-work from anywhere
  • Team Incentives: Recognition for maintaining 100% CRM hygiene and on-time reporting
  • Generous PTO: In accordance with company policy
  • Health Coverage for PH-based talents: HMO coverage after 3 months for full-time employees
  • Direct Mentorship: Guidance from international industry experts
  • Learning & Development: Ongoing access to resources for professional growth
  • Global Networking: Connect with professionals worldwide
