Remote Book Review information

What is a remote book reviewer?

A remote book reviewer is a professional who reads and evaluates books from a remote location, typically from home. Their job involves providing written reviews, critiques, or summaries of books for publishers, authors, websites, or magazines. Remote book reviewers help potential readers decide which books to read and offer constructive feedback to authors. They often work as freelancers and may specialize in specific genres or types of literature.

What are some common challenges faced by remote book reviewers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Remote book reviewers often face challenges such as managing deadlines across multiple assignments, staying motivated without direct supervision, and maintaining objectivity when evaluating diverse genres. To overcome these, it's helpful to set a structured reading and review schedule, participate in online reviewer communities for support, and use clear evaluation criteria to ensure fair assessments. Regular communication with editors or coordinators can also help clarify expectations and address any concerns promptly.

Job description

Staff Accountant / Senior Accountant - Grow With Us

BookSmarts is growing, and we'd love to talk with you.

We're a woman-founded, woman-led accounting firm serving over 300 small-to-medium businesses across the country. We're not just keeping the books; we're partnering with our clients to help them understand their numbers, make better decisions, and grow. Founded in 2008, we've built something we're proud of: a team of sharp, caring professionals who do great work with an innovative, flexible working model.

We have multiple openings at both the Staff and Senior Accountant levels.

What You'll Do

You'll own full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of clients, working alongside a team of bookkeepers to deliver accurate, timely financials. That means reviewing and preparing financial statements, supporting month-end and year-end close, analyzing financial data, and being a trusted point of contact for the clients you serve. You'll review bookkeepers' work, help optimize processes, and bring both technical precision and genuine care to everything you touch.

Experience managing accounting for multiple clients or entities is a strong plus; we move fast and our clients count on us.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2-5 years of full-cycle accounting experience
  • Solid understanding of GAAP
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable managing multiple client relationships simultaneously
  • Experience working with or overseeing bookkeepers is a plus

What We Offer

This is a remote position, minimum 20 hours/week with flexibility up to 40, and flexible scheduling. Plus PTO accrual, 401(k) matching. $23-40/hour based on experience. Remote within the U.S. only. Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Our team is founded on collaboration, support, andthe idea that great work doesn't require a rigid schedule.

We are a woman-led company and especially encourage women returning to the workforce or seeking flexible arrangements to apply.
