Remote Biw Design Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote BIW (Body-in-White) Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote BIW Design Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or automotive engineering, proficiency in CAD software, and experience with vehicle structure design principles. Familiarity with tools such as CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks, alongside knowledge of GD&T and simulation software, is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and attention to detail are crucial soft skills for collaborating remotely and ensuring design accuracy. These competencies are vital for creating safe, manufacturable vehicle structures and successfully contributing to distributed engineering teams.

How does a Remote BiW Design Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

As a Remote BiW (Body-in-White) Design Engineer, collaboration with cross-functional teams—such as manufacturing, simulation, and quality assurance—is primarily conducted through virtual meetings, shared digital workspaces, and collaborative CAD platforms. You will regularly participate in design reviews, provide technical feedback, and coordinate design changes to ensure manufacturability and compliance with safety standards. Effective communication and proactive documentation are key, as you must align your work with team goals despite being offsite. This remote setup often requires strong self-management skills and a high level of responsiveness to feedback and project updates.

What is a Remote BIW Design Engineer?

A Remote BIW (Body-in-White) Design Engineer is a specialized mechanical engineer who works remotely to design and develop the structural framework of vehicles, such as the body shell before painting and assembly. They use CAD software to create complex models and detailed drawings of automotive body components, ensuring strength, safety, and manufacturability. Typically, they collaborate with other engineers and teams virtually, review design specifications, and help optimize vehicle performance while reducing weight and cost. Their remote role allows them to contribute to projects from any location using digital communication and design tools.

What is the difference between Remote Biw Design Engineer vs Remote Automotive Interior Designer?

AspectRemote Biw Design EngineerRemote Automotive Interior Designer

Remote Biw Design Engineers focus on the technical aspects of vehicle interiors, including structural and electrical components, often requiring engineering credentials. In contrast, Remote Automotive Interior Designers emphasize aesthetic and ergonomic design, requiring a background in industrial design. Both roles work remotely within the automotive industry but serve different functions—engineering versus design—making their skills and focus areas distinct.

Electrical Design Engineer

Irvine, CA

Our exciting Space client is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to play a key role in the development of a remote sensing payload. In this role, you will own the payload electrical design and ensure seamless integration across all subsystems. You will be responsible for PCB design and modification, interface definition, test planning, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the payload electrical design, including power distribution, harnessing, PCB designs and PCB manufacturing chain.
  • Define, maintain, and enforce electrical interface control documents (ICDs) between the payload and the host spacecraft bus.
  • Lead development of payload electrical test protocols, including integration, environmental, and pre/post integration verification.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, RF, and software teams to ensure electrical design decisions align with system-level requirements.
  • Support system trade studies related to power, thermal, and GNC constraints.
  • Troubleshoot electrical anomalies during integration and test.
  • Generate and maintain design documentation, schematics, manufacturing packages and engineering reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in full lifecycle electrical hardware design.
  • Proven experience in electrical design lifecycle and manufacturing package generation, including BOM item assessments.
  • Experience in system-level integration and testing, including environmental testing (vibe, TVAC, EMI/EMC).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience with spacecraft power systems, harnessing, and bus interfaces.
  • Experience with ISR or remote sensing payloads
  • Familiarity with spacecraft GNC constraints as they pertain to payload performance.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, FPGAs, or avionics board design
  • Familiarity with design-for-test (DFT) and test automation frameworks
  • Experience performing system-level trades and contributing to subsystem productization
