Job description

Our client is seeking a Software Architect, Data Platform to lead the design, integrity, and scalability of a high-volume data platform. This is a hands-on architecture and engineering leadership role focused on solving complex data challenges, including telemetry ingestion, data accuracy, system reconciliation, and large-scale platform reliability.

The ideal candidate is a data-first architect with deep expertise in relational database design, SQL performance optimization, and data correctness who has expanded into cloud-native application architecture and engineering leadership.

Key Responsibilities

·      Own the architecture, quality, and integrity of the organization's data platform.

·      Design and optimize relational and time-series data models supporting high-volume telemetry data.

·      Lead a distributed engineering team while driving best practices in code quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence.

·      Establish technical architecture direction across backend services, data products, and customer-facing applications.

·      Develop and maintain production-grade backend services using modern cloud technologies.

·      Evaluate technology, storage, and build-versus-buy decisions based on scalability, reliability, maintainability, and cost.

·      Lead technical design efforts for new platform capabilities, integrations, and data-driven products.

·      Partner closely with business and technology stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.

·      Mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence.

Required Qualifications

Data & Database Expertise

·      Strong experience designing and optimizing relational database solutions in environments such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.

·      Expertise with:

o  Data modeling

o  Query tuning and execution plans

o  Indexing strategies

o  Partitioning techniques

o  Performance optimization

·      Experience validating and reconciling data against external source systems to ensure accuracy and consistency.

·      Knowledge of high-volume operational or time-series data environments.

Strong understanding of data pipeline reliability, including idempotency, retry handling, monitoring, and incident response.

Architecture & Engineering Leadership

·      3+ years of experience in a senior technical leadership role such as Architect, Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Engineering Lead.

·      Proven experience mentoring engineers and leading distributed teams.

·      Strong track record of making architecture decisions and guiding technical direction.

·      Experience driving engineering quality standards and operational maturity.

Cloud & Application Development

·      5+ years of experience building production backend, platform, cloud, or data systems.

·      Strong experience with AWS, including:

o  Lambda

o  S3

o  SNS/SQS

o  DynamoDB

o  IAM

o  VPC

o  Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation/CDK)

·      Hands-on experience developing backend services in TypeScript/Node.js or similar technologies.

·      Ability to review and evaluate modern frontend architectures built with React or Next.js.

Preferred Qualifications

·      PostgreSQL and TimescaleDB experience.

·      Experience with time-series databases such as InfluxDB or ClickHouse.

·      IoT, telemetry, utility, water, energy, or sensor-driven platforms.

·      Experience with data lakes and analytics tools such as Athena, Glue, and Parquet.

·      Knowledge of Docker, ECS/Fargate, ECR, and CI/CD pipelines.
