Remote Bioinformatics Python information

What is a remote bioinformatics python?

A Remote Bioinformatics Python job involves using the Python programming language to analyze biological data, such as DNA, RNA, or protein sequences, from a remote location. Professionals in this role develop algorithms, scripts, and tools to process and interpret complex datasets, often supporting research in genomics, drug discovery, and healthcare. Working remotely allows bioinformaticians to collaborate with global teams and contribute to scientific projects without needing to relocate. These roles typically require strong programming skills, knowledge of bioinformatics concepts, and experience with biological databases.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote bioinformatics python professional?

To thrive as a Remote Bioinformatics Python professional, you need a strong background in biology, statistics, and computational analysis, typically supported by a degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field. Expertise in Python programming, familiarity with bioinformatics tools (such as Biopython, pandas, and NumPy), and experience using platforms like Git and Linux are essential. Strong problem-solving, communication, and self-motivation skills help you collaborate effectively and manage projects independently in a remote environment. These skills ensure that you can analyze complex biological data accurately, share insights with interdisciplinary teams, and contribute effectively to research or clinical projects from a remote setting.

How do remote bioinformatics python professionals typically collaborate with research teams and handle data security?

Remote Bioinformatics Python professionals often work closely with interdisciplinary research teams, including biologists, statisticians, and software engineers. Collaboration is facilitated through regular video meetings, shared code repositories (like GitHub), and project management tools such as Jira or Trello. Data security is paramount in this field, so professionals must follow strict protocols for accessing and transferring sensitive biological data, often using encrypted channels and adhering to institutional or governmental compliance standards.

What is the difference between Remote Bioinformatics Python vs Remote Genomic Data Analyst?

AspectRemote Bioinformatics PythonRemote Genomic Data Analyst
Required SkillsPython, bioinformatics tools, data analysisGenomic data interpretation, statistical analysis, Python (optional)
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, biotech companies, academiaHealthcare institutions, research organizations, biotech firms
Common CertificationsBioinformatics certifications, Python programmingBioinformatics or genomics certifications, data analysis skills

Remote Bioinformatics Python roles focus on developing and applying Python-based tools for biological data analysis, often requiring programming expertise. Remote Genomic Data Analysts interpret genomic datasets, utilizing statistical and bioinformatics skills. Both roles are prevalent in biotech and research industries, but Bioinformatics Python positions emphasize coding, while Genomic Data Analysts focus more on data interpretation and reporting.

Job description

About Tiny Health

Tiny Health is advancing lifelong health, from the first 1,000 days to the last, and addressing chronic disease through precision microbiome science. Founded in 2020 and built by microbiome scientists and physicians, our testing platform reveals whether your microbiome is trending toward resilience or imbalances using shotgun metagenomics, proprietary AI, and one of the world's largest longitudinal datasets. Trusted by families and health practitioners alike, our research-backed gut and vaginal tests are redefining the microbiome as a cornerstone of personalized health through every life stage. Learn more at tinyhealth.com and poweredbytiny.com.

The Opportunity

As Bioinformatics Technician, you will operate and maintain aspects of our bioinformatics pipeline. You will monitor incoming data deliveries, run samples on our bioinformatics pipeline, and perform standardized quality control.

Beyond your core responsibilities with the bioinformatics pipeline, you will also support the science, clinical research, and customer support teams by compiling datasets, performing analyses and responding to customer issues.

We are looking for someone who is highly organized, resourceful, and comfortable operating with significant autonomy. The ideal candidate enjoys working with data, solving problems, and taking ownership of both scientific and operational outcomes. This position reports directly to the Bioinformatics Engineer and works closely with our broader science team.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage day-to-day operations of Tiny Health's bioinformatics pipeline

  • Track samples from when the data is delivered to final release of the results

  • Monitor a cloud-based bioinformatics pipeline for failures

  • Perform standardized batch-level quality control analyses

  • Provide computational support to the science and clinical research teams by generating datasets and performing short analyses

  • Work closely with the customer support team to resolve issues affecting customers

  • Collaborate with scientists, bioinformaticians, and external partners to advance research objectives

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation

QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or equivalent experience in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Microbiology or a related field

  • Experience with bioinformatics pipelines

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, R.

  • Experience with AI tools

  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize competing responsibilities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred
  • Experience working with microbiome, microbial ecology, or metagenomics datasets particularly in humans

  • Experience in the biotech industry, especially start-ups

  • Experience with shotgun metagenomic bioinformatics workflows

  • Experience with SQL or other databases

  • Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms

  • Previous experience in a fast-paced startup environment

  • Work experience in DTC health/wellness companies

  • Experience working remotely, with proficiency in Slack

  • Self-directed, proactive, and comfortable with ambiguity

How we work
  • A mission that actually pulls people in
We make the microbiome measurable and actionable at every life stage, and real people write in to say it's life-changing.

  • Remote-first, real overlap
Our FTEs are based in North America and work core hours from 9am–6pm CST, shiftable by up to two hours either way — start at 7am or 11am, wrap at 4pm or 8pm.

  • Written first, huddle second, meet last
Default to a clear Slack post, huddle when a thread stalls, and meet only to make a real decision.

  • Fast, but never sloppy
Do the two-month thing in two weeks, then check the work—shipping errors is rework, not speed.

  • Shape what we build, not just how we build it
There's no playbook waiting for you, so write it—and bring the alternative, not just the objection.

  • Day One mentality
Fewer titles and layers; process is a guardrail where it counts, never the reason something didn't ship.

  • No hidden agendas
Numbers, misses, and feedback are shared openly and in real time, so you always know where you stand.

  • High standards, genuinely fun people
Take the work seriously and ourselves much less—high-performing and fun to be around is the hiring bar.

  • Is this pace for you?
Venture-scaled and on a steep trajectory, with intensity in spikes, fiercely protected flexibility, and faster growth than anywhere else.

Our Values
  1. Learn Fast, Get Better - Find the root cause, not just the fix, and get better every time

  2. Be Relentlessly Resourceful - Dig for the answer, move fast, and know when to ask for help

  3. Act Like an Owner, Be Hungry to Win - Act like it’s your company, and do whatever it takes to win

  4. Act with Honesty and Empathy - Say what’s true, and say it with care

  5. Delight People by Anticipating Their Needs - Solve the problem, then get two steps ahead of it
