Job description

Dawson Group is looking for an early career Accountant who is looking to increase their accounting experience and is passionate about improving processes and adopting new technology. 

In this role you will be a valued member of Dawson Group, working in the permanent, full-time position of Accountant, reporting to the Corporate Controller. This role will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions for Dawson Group and identifying opportunities to streamline and automate them. This includes preparation of required accounting entries, GL account reconciliations, inter-company entries and reconciliations, bank reconciliations and other recurring accounting activities. Your base location will be in Kamloops, B.C.; however, Dawson Group embraces remote work, meaning the successful candidate will have the flexibility to work from home.


WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Ability to efficiently perform full cycle accounting and month-end tasks 
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks while working within tight deadlines
  • Continuously identify inefficient or manual processes and propose, implement, and document improvements - including new software functionality and AI or automation tools
  • Prepare and file periodic government returns including GST, PST and WorkSafe BC.
  • Process inter-company transactions, allocations, and reconciliations
  • Prepare bank reconciliations across the Dawson Group of companies, processing adjusting entries as required
  • Prepare monthly standard entries such as prepaid entries, payroll entries, insurance, etc.
  • Assist Corporate Controller and accounting team with process improvement projects and system implementation as required


You will receive mentorship, guidance and opportunities to grow your accounting and process improvement skills in a diversified, fast-paced construction environment. You will work along side experienced accounting professionals, and be part of a team dedicated to providing value added services to all operations groups and building on a track record of success.   


WHAT YOU BRING

  • A genuine passion for process improvement - you enjoy finding a better, faster, or more automated way to do things
  • Comfort learning and adopting new software, tools, and AI-enabled functionality
  • Diploma or coursework in Accounting, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Full cycle accounting experience
  • Strong Excel Skills including proficient use of pivot tables and formulas
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Industry experience in construction/manufacturing would be an asset
  • Experience with process improvement, workflow automation, or efficient AI tool use a strong asset
