What is a remote bank?

A Remote Bank job involves performing banking-related tasks from a remote location, typically from home or a co-working space. These roles can include customer service, fraud prevention, loan processing, or financial advising. Employees use digital tools to assist customers, process transactions, and ensure compliance with banking regulations. Remote banking jobs provide flexibility while maintaining the security and professionalism of traditional banking roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the remote bank position?

To thrive in a remote banking role, you need strong financial acumen, customer service expertise, and relevant banking experience or education. Familiarity with digital banking platforms, CRM systems, and secure communication tools is typically required, along with certifications such as anti-money laundering (AML) training. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently are valuable soft skills for this position. These abilities are essential for delivering seamless banking experiences, maintaining compliance, and building customer trust in a remote setting.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working in remote banking positions?

One of the most common challenges in remote banking roles is maintaining clear and secure communication with clients while ensuring the highest level of customer service. Remote bankers must be adept at using digital tools to troubleshoot client issues, process transactions, and provide financial guidance without face-to-face interaction. Staying compliant with evolving regulations and security protocols is also crucial to prevent fraud and data breaches. Success in this role requires being highly organized, proactive in addressing client needs, and adaptable to new technologies and procedures.

What you'll be doing

The Energy, Infrastructure & Transition (EIT) team provides investment banking services to existing and prospective clients across upstream and midstream energy, renewable and conventional power, utilities, infrastructure, energy transition, and climate technology. With a global coverage strategy spanning North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Australia, we deliver a client-focused approach that combines mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and financial advisory services with access to debt, equity, and loan capital markets, as well as risk management and hedging solutions. As a Director, EIT, Global Investment Banking, you'll play a lead role in supporting clients through complex transactions, including M&A, strategic and capital structure advisory, debt and equity financings, and tax equity transactions. You'll work closely with colleagues across Capital Markets and our global offices to deliver thoughtful, sector-informed advice and execution support. Based in Calgary, this role has a primary sector focus on upstream and midstream energy and offers the opportunity to contribute to a market-leading platform in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How you'll succeed

  • Client advisory and origination - Support business development and origination efforts by preparing client proposals and contributing ideas for equity and debt financings, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other advisory mandates. Partner with cross-functional teams across CIBC Capital Markets to support client opportunities and complex transactions.

  • Financial analysis and modeling - Develop, review, and audit sophisticated financial models and valuation analyses. Lead comparable company, precedent transaction, and other financial analyses to help inform strategic recommendations for clients.

  • Transaction execution - Play an active role in executing client mandates by supporting due diligence, coordinating information flow across deal teams, and preparing offering memoranda, investor presentations, and other marketing materials. Work closely with internal partners and external advisors, including legal counsel, auditors, and accounting advisors, throughout the transaction lifecycle.

  • Industry insight - Conduct in-depth industry and company research to identify business opportunities, assess market developments, and support strategic advice for clients in the energy, infrastructure, and transition sectors.

  • Team leadership - Mentor, train, and provide guidance to junior team members across projects and day-to-day work. Help foster a collaborative team environment that supports strong execution and professional development.

  • Relationship management - Build and strengthen relationships with clients, internal partners, and external market participants. Contribute sector knowledge and market insight to client and deal team discussions, and support CIBC's profile through thoughtful engagement with stakeholders and the broader community.

Who you are

  • You're goal oriented. You're highly motivated, accountable, and able to take on significant responsibility in a fast-paced environment. You bring a strong drive to help clients solve complex financial and strategic challenges.

  • You have relevant education. You have an undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, mathematics, computer science, economics, or a related field. It's an asset if you hold a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

  • You have relevant experience. You bring 5+ years of experience in one or more of investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, private equity, or the energy, infrastructure, and transition sectors. Experience in financial modeling and analysis is required, and detailed knowledge of the Canadian energy or infrastructure sector is an asset.

  • You can demonstrate experience in financial modeling, valuation methodologies, accounting principles related to financial statement preparation and business combinations, and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. It's an asset if you have experience with Bloomberg, FactSet, or Argus Enterprise.

  • You're motivated by collective success. You build strong relationships and work effectively with clients, colleagues, and external partners. You communicate complex ideas clearly and professionally, and you use sound judgment when making business decisions and representing CIBC Capital Markets.

  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
