Remote Backlog information

How do Remote Backlog team members typically collaborate with other departments to manage project priorities effectively?

Remote Backlog professionals frequently coordinate with cross-functional teams, such as development, product management, and quality assurance, using online collaboration tools. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and transparent communication channels are essential to keep everyone aligned on shifting priorities and deadlines. Effective collaboration also involves gathering feedback, refining tasks, and ensuring that backlog items are well-defined for smooth handoffs between remote teams. This environment requires strong organizational skills and proactive communication to overcome challenges such as time zone differences and varying workflows.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Backlog Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Backlog Manager, you need strong organizational skills, experience in agile methodologies, and a background in project management or business analysis. Familiarity with project management tools like Jira, Trello, or Asana, and certifications such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM) are commonly required. Excellent communication, prioritization, and stakeholder management skills help you coordinate tasks and ensure alignment across teams. These skills are important to efficiently manage project priorities, ensure timely delivery, and support effective team collaboration in remote or distributed environments.

Understanding these differences helps organizations assign the right responsibilities and candidates for each position.

What is a Remote Backlog position?

A Remote Backlog position typically refers to a role where an employee manages and organizes a list of pending tasks, projects, or issues remotely. These professionals track progress, prioritize tasks, and help ensure that work is completed efficiently, often using project management tools and collaborating with distributed teams. The backlog can include customer requests, product features, technical issues, or support tickets, depending on the organization. This role is common in software development, customer support, and project management environments. Remote Backlog specialists play a key role in keeping teams organized and ensuring that important work is addressed in a timely manner.

Job description

Agile Product Manager (Remote Contract) / 100% Remote (Seattle, WA)
Help Drive Enterprise Product Delivery in a High-Maturity Agile Environment
  • We are seeking an experienced Agile Product Manager with a strong history and success in financial services, banking, fintech, or credit unions to play a key role in transforming product strategy into executable work across a large-scale Agile delivery organization.
  • This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of product, technology, architecture, and business teams to ensure new capabilities are successfully delivered while maintaining a strong focus on customer value and business outcomes.
  • This is a true Product Manager role, not a Project Manager role.
  • We are looking for a product-minded professional who can take strategic objectives, unpack them into EPICs, Features, and PBIs, and lead the refinement process that enables Agile teams to deliver efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

In this role, you'll serve as the bridge between product strategy and delivery execution. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with Product Managers to translate product vision and customer value propositions into actionable EPICs.
  • Developing and refining Features and PBIs that are ready for Product Owners and Agile delivery teams.
  • Leading backlog refinement sessions and driving alignment across Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Engineering teams, and Architects.
  • Managing and maintaining Agile work items and delivery tracking within Azure DevOps (ADO).
  • Collaborating with UX, architecture, risk, compliance, and PMO stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.
  • Supporting testing, launch activities, risk identification, and ongoing delivery performance discussions.
Required Skills & ExperienceAgile Product Management
  • Extensive experience owning EPICs, Features, and PBIs from concept through refinement and delivery.
  • Strong backlog management and backlog refinement expertise.
  • Deep understanding of Agile and/or SAFe delivery frameworks.
  • Advanced experience using Azure DevOps (ADO) for product and delivery management.
Enterprise Product Management
  • Experience working within large, complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Ability to align multiple stakeholders, business units, and delivery teams.
  • Success supporting enterprise-scale product initiatives rather than isolated feature delivery.
Financial Services Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in banking, fintech, lending, cards, or other regulated financial environments.
  • Understanding of compliance, governance, and risk management considerations.
  • Product management experience within Cards and Lending is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates without banking, credit union, lending, cards, or other regulated financial services experience will not be a fit for this opportunity. The successful candidate must be comfortable operating in highly regulated environments where risk, compliance, governance, and member/customer experience are critical components of product delivery.

Successful candidates will clearly show:

  • Ownership of EPICs, Features, User Stories, and backlog refinement efforts.
  • Hands-on Azure DevOps (ADO) experience.
  • Enterprise-scale Agile delivery experience.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership across Product, Engineering, Architecture, Risk, and Business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in banking, fintech, lending, cards, or other regulated financial environments.

Quantifiable business outcomes such as:

  • Revenue growth
  • Cost savings
  • Efficiency improvements
  • Adoption increases
  • Customer experience improvements
  • We are looking for candidates who demonstrate measurable impact, not simply a list of responsibilities. Top candidates show how their product decisions and Agile leadership drove business results.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • The ideal candidate is an Enterprise Agile Product Manager who excels at turning strategy into delivery-ready work.
  • Demonstrated experience in banking, fintech, lending, cards, or other regulated financial environments.
  • They are comfortable navigating ambiguity, influencing stakeholders without direct authority, and driving alignment across large organizations.
  • They think like a product leader, not a project coordinator, and consistently focus on customer outcomes, business value, and delivery excellence.
