What is a Remote Backend .NET Developer?

A Remote Backend .NET Developer is a software engineer who specializes in building and maintaining the server-side components of web applications using the Microsoft .NET framework, such as ASP.NET. They work remotely, meaning they perform their job duties outside of a traditional office, often from home or another location. Their responsibilities typically include designing APIs, managing databases, optimizing application performance, and ensuring secure data handling. These developers collaborate with front-end developers, project managers, and other stakeholders, using tools that support remote communication and code collaboration. The role requires strong programming skills in C# or VB.NET, as well as experience with cloud services, databases, and version control systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Backend .NET Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Backend .NET Developer, you need strong programming skills in C#, .NET frameworks, and a solid understanding of back-end architecture, often backed by a computer science degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with databases (like SQL Server), cloud platforms (such as Azure), version control systems (like Git), and relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: .NET Developer) are highly beneficial. Excellent problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies enable you to build robust, scalable applications, collaborate effectively with distributed teams, and deliver high-quality solutions remotely.

How does a Remote Backend .NET Developer typically collaborate with team members and manage workflow across different time zones?

As a Remote Backend .NET Developer, collaboration is often facilitated through tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and project management platforms such as Jira or Azure DevOps. Regular stand-ups, code reviews, and sprint meetings are scheduled to accommodate various time zones, ensuring clear communication and alignment on project goals. Developers are expected to write thorough documentation and maintain clear, asynchronous communication, which helps teams stay productive and cohesive despite geographical differences. This structure supports effective troubleshooting, knowledge sharing, and continuous integration of code.

Role Overview
Reporting to the VP of Platform Engineering, you'll collaborate closely with a team of 5-7 engineers who specialize in backend systems, scaling, resilience, API coding and management.   Our team culture is highly collaborative and supportive, with everyone committed to raising the technical bar and delivering for our world-class clients.

In this role, you will have a direct impact on scaling, modernizing, and implementing our backend platform. Responsibilities
+ Building, optimizing, and maintaining backend services and APIs with a focus on performance and reliability.
+ Developing and maintaining internal tools, observability systems (logging, telemetry, metrics), and data pipelines.
+ Taking on varied technical challenges as priorities shift-whether that's improving CI/CD workflows, enhancing security posture, or architecting new systems.
+ Collaborate closely with a cross-functional engineering team of 6-7 engineers on delivering microservices and backend infrastructure improvements.
+ Contributing to infrastructure and deployment strategies using AWS and Terraform.
+ Championing best practices in testing, documentation, and automation.
+ Mentoring teammates and providing technical leadership for complex backend systems.

Qualifications
+ Strong experience with TypeScript, Node.js, and Express.
+ Solid AWS infrastructure expertise (ECS, VPC networking, IAM, etc.).
+ Experience with Terraform (or other infrastructure-as-code tools).
+ SQL expertise, with Postgres preferred.
+ Experience with Python for scripting or data workflows.
+ A proven ability to design and deliver backend systems at scale.

We Offer
- Competitive salary and benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
- The opportunity to shape a modern cloud-based data platform that powers real products and ML experiences.
- A collaborative, low-ego work environment where your ideas are valued and your contributions are visible.
- Flexible work arrangements (remote and hybrid options) and a healthy respect for work-life balance.
$145,000 - $165,000 a year
