What is a Remote Backend .NET Developer?

A Remote Backend .NET Developer is a software engineer who specializes in building and maintaining the server-side components of web applications using the Microsoft .NET framework, such as ASP.NET. They work remotely, meaning they perform their job duties outside of a traditional office, often from home or another location. Their responsibilities typically include designing APIs, managing databases, optimizing application performance, and ensuring secure data handling. These developers collaborate with front-end developers, project managers, and other stakeholders, using tools that support remote communication and code collaboration. The role requires strong programming skills in C# or VB.NET, as well as experience with cloud services, databases, and version control systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Backend .NET Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Backend .NET Developer, you need strong programming skills in C#, .NET frameworks, and a solid understanding of back-end architecture, often backed by a computer science degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with databases (like SQL Server), cloud platforms (such as Azure), version control systems (like Git), and relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: .NET Developer) are highly beneficial. Excellent problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies enable you to build robust, scalable applications, collaborate effectively with distributed teams, and deliver high-quality solutions remotely.

How does a Remote Backend .NET Developer typically collaborate with team members and manage workflow across different time zones?

As a Remote Backend .NET Developer, collaboration is often facilitated through tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and project management platforms such as Jira or Azure DevOps. Regular stand-ups, code reviews, and sprint meetings are scheduled to accommodate various time zones, ensuring clear communication and alignment on project goals. Developers are expected to write thorough documentation and maintain clear, asynchronous communication, which helps teams stay productive and cohesive despite geographical differences. This structure supports effective troubleshooting, knowledge sharing, and continuous integration of code.

Job description

We're on a mission to build the most customer-centric travel company on earth. We are leveraging the power that comes from combining massive amounts of data and machine learning to build the world's fastest-growing mobile first travel marketplace -- one that enables our customers to save money and travel better.
Our goal is to reduce traveler anxiety throughout all stages of the trip buying and taking process. By creating a transparent travel marketplace and unique, data-driven financial technology products focused on providing peace-of-mind, we add value along each step of the customer's journey.
We've launched several bespoke fintech products that leverage our immense first and third-party data to create products and value that do not exist elsewhere - including Refundable and Flexible Tickets and Price Freeze. Thanks to these offerings, our revenue growth is up 112% despite the travel slowdown due to COVID-19.
With over $250M CAD in funding from leading investors in both Canada and the US, we are primed to continue our acceleration to becoming the world's fastest-growing end-to-end customer-centric travel offering.
Recognized as one of the world's most innovative companies by Fast Company three years in a row, our app has been downloaded over 50 million times and sees over 1 million new installs per month. The app has received high praise in the form of mobile accolades such as the Webby Award for Best Travel App of 2019.
Come take off with us!
