Job Title: Senior SAP ABAP Developer (Digital Manufacturing Integration)
Location: Remote / Global Travel Required
Experience Level: 8-12+ Years
Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior SAP ABAP Developer to support the global upgrade and implementation of our digital manufacturing platform (SAP MII/ME). In this role, you will be the core backend developer responsible for building and optimizing the ERP-side interfaces, custom extensions, and cloud-readiness strategies required to fuel our shop-floor systems. Working with a premier Aerospace & Defense client, you will leverage current ECC instances and they transition to S/4HANA and SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform) to ensure seamless, high-performance, and secure data exchange between the enterprise core and MII/ME layers.
Core Responsibilities
  • ECC & S/4HANA Core & Integration Development: Develop, optimize, and maintain modern interfaces utilizing OData services, CDS Views, and AMDP (ABAP Managed Database Procedures) to connect S/4HANA with SAP MII and SAP ME.
  • SAP BTP Extension & Integration: Design and build clean-core extensions, APIs, and integration flows on SAP BTP to orchestrate data between S/4HANA and shop-floor solutions.
  • ERP Custom Enhancement: Create custom ABAP objects, User Exits, BADIs, and Enhancement Spots within core S/4HANA manufacturing modules (PP, QM, MM, PM) using RAP (ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model) or modern extensibility frameworks.
  • Performance Tuning: Troubleshoot, profile, and optimize complex ABAP code and S/4HANA database queries to handle high-volume, real-time data transmissions without latency.
  • A&D Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all custom code, BTP applications, and data structures strictly comply with defense-specific compliance mandates, including ITAR data segregation and secure cloud standards.
  • Technical Collaboration: Partner closely with the Lead Functional Consultant and Principal SAP MII/ME Architect to translate technical specifications into secure, scalable S/4HANA and BTP solutions.

Technical Qualifications
  • ABAP on ECC & S/4HANA migration Expertise: 8-12+ years of advanced SAP ABAP programming experience, with minimum 1-2 projects (3+ years) of hands-on experience migrating & developing natively inside an SAP S/4HANA environment.
  • SAP BTP Proficiency: Practical experience with SAP BTP services (such as SAP Integration Suite, Extension Suite, or BTP ABAP Environment) to develop side-by-side or decoupled extensions.
  • Modern SAP Development Stack: Deep expertise in building CDS Views, OData services, AMDP, and applying SAP's "Clean Core" development principles.
  • Manufacturing Module Knowledge: Deep technical understanding of the underlying database tables and logic inside S/4HANA PP (Production Planning), QM (Quality Management), and MM (Materials Management).
  • Shop-Floor Context: Prior experience developing code specifically designed to interact with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or SAP MII/ME layers (excluding SCADA).

Soft Skills & Compliance
  • Strong analytical skills with a precise attention to detail required for the highly regulated A&D industry.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across global, distributed technical teams.
  • Due to ITAR regulations and defense contract restrictions, US Citizenship or specific regional security clearances may be required.
