Remote Aws Network Engineer information

What does a remote AWS network engineer do?

A Remote AWS Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing network infrastructure within Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments, all while working from a remote location. They configure virtual networks, set up VPNs, manage security groups, and ensure the connectivity and security of cloud resources. This role often involves troubleshooting network issues, optimizing performance, and maintaining compliance with security policies. Collaboration with other IT teams and continuous learning about new AWS networking features are key aspects of the job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote AWS network engineer?

To thrive as a Remote AWS Network Engineer, you need a strong background in network design, cloud architecture, and experience with AWS services, often supported by a relevant degree and AWS certifications like AWS Certified Advanced Networking. Familiarity with tools such as AWS VPC, CloudFormation, Route 53, VPNs, and network monitoring platforms is essential. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and self-management skills help you collaborate effectively and resolve issues in a distributed work environment. These capabilities ensure secure, scalable, and reliable cloud network infrastructures that meet organizational needs.

What are some common challenges faced by remote AWS network engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote AWS Network Engineers often navigate challenges such as troubleshooting complex network issues without on-site access, managing secure connectivity between on-premises and cloud environments, and staying current with AWS networking services. To address these, it's important to leverage AWS diagnostic tools like VPC Flow Logs and CloudWatch, maintain clear communication with distributed teams, and participate in continuous learning through AWS training resources. Proactively documenting configurations and solutions also helps ensure efficient collaboration and problem resolution.

Department: IS Information Technology Svcs
Work Type: Full Time
Shift: Shift 1/8:00:00 AM to 4:30:00 PM
Minimum to Midpoint Pay Rate: $54.15 - $70.39 / hour
This is a remote position. Incumbents, who reside in Florida only, may work remotely. There may be occasional situations that require work to be performed on-site at an assigned Lee Health location.
Summary
Lee Health is seeking a visionary Enterprise Network & Hybrid Cloud Architect to lead the design, optimization, and governance of our health system's core networking fabric and enterprise-wide cloud strategy. This senior technology leader will shape the future of connectivity across our multi-site clinical environment-bridging legacy physical infrastructure, advanced routing/switching, and secure cloud environments. The ideal candidate is a seasoned network engineer who has evolved into cloud space, passionate about designing scalable, high-performance, and resilient hybrid routing ecosystems that securely handle clinical data traffic, enterprise workloads, and modern AI pipelines. This role serves as a trusted advisor to IT leadership, cybersecurity, and network engineering teams, ensuring that campus networks, WAN edges, and cloud landing zones deliver maximum uptime, strict compliance, and line-rate performance.
What You'll Do
  • Lead the architecture, lifecycle design, and continuous optimization of our enterprise core routing and switching fabric across all hospitals, clinics, and data centers.
  • Design and implement secure, high-availability hybrid cloud edge connectivity utilizing Azure ExpressRoute, AWS Direct Connect, and complex BGP/OSPF configurations for deterministic traffic routing.
  • Partner with the Information Security Officer to enforce Zero-Trust network segmentation across physical campus switches, data center fabrics, and virtual private clouds (VPCs), adhering to HIPAA, HITRUST, and NIST standards.
  • Develop engineering frameworks, strict access control lists (ACLs), and automated network guardrails that protect mission-critical clinical workloads and connected medical equipment.
  • Optimize end-to-end network throughput and minimize latency for large-scale data transport, supporting healthcare interoperability and data-heavy AI/LLM ingestion pipelines.
  • Manage the evolution of the WAN edge and local campus distribution layers, ensuring seamless interoperability between traditional hardware, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), and multi-cloud platforms.
  • Provide expert technical leadership in network automation, utilizing scripting (Python, Shell) and orchestration tools (Ansible, Terraform) to eliminate manual configuration drift.
  • Mentor and scale technical engineering teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning that bridges traditional route/switch disciplines with modern automated infrastructure.

What You'll Bring
Education Requirements:
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree required or equivalent of minimum 8 years relevant work experience (network or data center engineering / architecture)
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline (Highly Desirable).
  • Experience Requirements:
  • Required: 8 or more years of daily, hands-on experience working directly with enterprise network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and network protocols.
  • Required: Track record of developing compatible system infrastructures that align with long-term organization strategies.
  • Preferred / Helpful Experience: CapEx strategic budgeting, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) implementation, Zero-Trust security frameworks, and acting as a Clinical Engineering (Biomed) liaison.

Other Requirements:
  • Requires superior communication and consultation skills to coordinate effectively with executive leadership and translate technical requirements into business value.
  • Must be able to coordinate and provide expert guidance in the design and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity frameworks.
  • Some after-hours work and periodic 24x7 on-call support will be required, including participating with Emergency/Hurricane Response teams as assigned.

Certifications
Required:
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) OR Arista Cloud Engineer Expert (ACE-E) certification.

Desired (One or more to support hybrid cloud mandates):
  • Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert / AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional
  • CISSP or CCSP (Security/Cloud Security)
  • TOGAF Certification

Why Join Lee Health
  • Be part of a nationally recognized health system-a multi-award-winning organization on the journey to Magnet Recognition and a Governor's Sterling Award recipient.
