Remote Automotive Programming information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Automotive Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Automotive Programmer, you need strong skills in embedded systems programming, automotive software development, and a relevant degree such as computer engineering or computer science. Familiarity with automotive protocols (like CAN, LIN), diagnostic tools, and programming languages such as C/C++, as well as experience with tools like Vector CANoe and MATLAB/Simulink, are typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective communication skills help you collaborate remotely and tackle complex technical challenges. These skills ensure you can deliver reliable, innovative automotive software solutions while working effectively in distributed teams.

What are the typical collaboration methods used by remote automotive programming teams?

Remote automotive programming teams often rely on a mix of cloud-based development environments, version control systems like Git, and regular virtual meetings to collaborate effectively. Team members typically use project management tools such as Jira or Trello to track progress and assign tasks. Open communication channels, such as Slack or Microsoft Teams, are essential for quickly resolving issues and sharing updates. This structure supports a cohesive workflow despite team members working from different locations.

What is remote automotive programming?

Remote automotive programming refers to the process of configuring or updating a vehicle's software or electronic control units (ECUs) from a distance, without needing to be physically present with the car. Technicians use specialized tools and secure internet connections to access the car's systems, often to reprogram keys, update firmware, or troubleshoot issues. This approach saves time and allows for greater flexibility, especially for fleet management or vehicles in remote locations. The technology is increasingly important as modern vehicles become more software-driven and interconnected.

What is the difference between Remote Automotive Programming vs Remote Automotive Diagnostics?

Remote Automotive Programming involves updating or modifying vehicle ECUs through software, often requiring specialized certifications. Remote Automotive Diagnostics focuses on analyzing vehicle data and identifying issues remotely. While both roles require automotive knowledge and certifications, programming emphasizes software updates, whereas diagnostics centers on troubleshooting. They serve different but related functions within the automotive industry, often working together to ensure vehicle performance and repair.

Job description

Senior Director, Product Management

Remote, United States | Full-Time

ABOUT ACCURIS

Accuris powers the world's engineers and builders. Our engineering intelligence platform brings together standards, technical content, and workflow tools that the most demanding industries — aerospace, defense, automotive, energy, and industrial manufacturing — rely on to design, certify, and ship their products. We unleash builders to build a better future.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Accuris is investing in the next generation of our product portfolio. We need senior product leaders who can shape strategy, set direction across multiple teams, and make the calls that move the business — without needing a large org reporting to them to do it.

We're hiring a Senior Director, Product Management as a senior individual contributor. You'll own one of the most strategically important areas of the Accuris portfolio. You won't manage a team of PMs — instead, you'll operate as a player-coach: setting the vision, doing the hardest product work yourself, raising the bar for everyone around you, and influencing executives, partners, and engineering leaders at the most senior levels.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own end-to-end strategy and outcomes for a strategically critical area of the Accuris product portfolio — vision, positioning, roadmap, and P&L impact.
  • Make the hardest product calls yourself. Define the bets, sequence the work, kill what isn't working, and double down on what is.
  • Operate as the most senior product mind in the room on your area. Engineering leaders, designers, architects, and field teams should look to you as the source of truth on what to build and why.
  • Spend significant time with customers — discovery, validation, co-design, and reference development. You stay close to the work, not above it.
  • Drive cross-portfolio alignment. Partner directly with peers in Engineering, Design, GTM, Marketing, and Finance to land strategy that requires coordination across many teams.
  • Represent your area at the executive level — present to the CEO, CPO, and Board with crisp narrative, sharp data, and clear recommendations.
  • Mentor and uplevel other PMs across the organization through coaching, written artifacts, and example. Set the standard for product craft at Accuris.
  • Build the strategic frameworks (pricing/packaging, build-vs-partner, market segmentation) that the rest of the portfolio will use.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 12+ years in product management, including 5+ years operating at Principal or Director level on B2B technical, platform, or enterprise software products.
  • A track record of owning major product areas as the senior PM voice — driving outcomes through influence and craft rather than headcount.
  • Deep product judgment. You're known for the calls you've made, the bets you've sequenced correctly, and the work you've shipped that customers actually use.
  • Comfort operating at the executive level. You can write a board memo, lead a strategy review, and push back on a CEO when the data warrants it.
  • Strong technical fluency: you can hold your own with senior engineers and architects on modern web architectures, APIs, deployment models, and platform tradeoffs.
  • Exceptional written communication. Your strategy docs, narratives, and PRDs are the kind other PMs read to learn the craft.
  • Bias toward customer evidence and measurable outcomes. You're allergic to vanity metrics and opinion-driven roadmaps.
  • Willingness to operate without direct reports. You influence, mentor, and uplevel — but the impact comes from your own work and judgment.

BONUS POINTS

  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Prior experience as a senior IC at a larger software company (Staff PM, Principal PM, or Sr. Director IC track).
  • Experience in regulated or safety-critical industries: aerospace, defense, automotive, medical devices, or energy.

WHY ACCURIS

  • A real senior IC track. We believe the best product leaders shouldn't have to manage people to grow, and we'll pay and promote accordingly.
  • Mission that matters: the engineers who use our products design the aircraft, vehicles, and infrastructure the world depends on.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS INFORMATION

Accuris states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $180,000 to $220,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographical location as well as experience and qualifications for the role. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan as well as comprehensive benefits. For more information on benefits, please reach out to the recruiter assigned to the role.
