Software Engineer

This position works closely with the Electrical team to help troubleshoot new board designs and write software to make them operational. The position also works with the operations team to troubleshoot customer experiments and solve on orbit issues.
•Create software for spaceflight equipment, including designing and/or programming embedded systems, with limited supervision or oversight
•Assist MISSE customers and Primary Investigators (PI) to ensure that their active experiments/payloads meet ISS and MISSE requirements, can be integrated, and will function as planned on-orbit. This includes working closely with our integration engineer(s) and designers.
•Design electronics and software to interface with customer active experiments/payloads and assist with their integration and testing.
•Responsible for MISSE avionics - design, upgrades, maintenance, and performance, including understanding and troubleshooting MISSE systems.
•Hands-on work such as assembling and testing flight hardware and/or ground support equipment.
•Plan and/or support environmental testing of spaceflight hardware
•Review electrical/embedded circuit/system designs created by others and offer constructive feedback
•Support on-orbit operations, manufacturing, assembly, and testing
•Clear and concise reporting of assigned work tasks and initiatives.
•Communicate daily activities with other team members
•Some travel may required
•Other duties as assigned
•5-10 years of experience
•Experience with C++, Python, and other common programming languages.
•Experience with creating user interfaces and network communication protocols.
•Experience with Linux and embedded systems.
•Experience with NASA requirements and verification process. (Preferred not required.)
•Current knowledge of the state of electrical component and embedded system design and use
•Familiar with the effects of spaceflight on electrical components; able to correctly select components for spaceflight use.
•Self-motivated, focused on delivering excellent products on time and on budget
•Proven ability to work autonomously, with a minimum of supervision, and also excel as part of a team
•Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
•Experience with analog instruments a plus
•Strong time management and organizational skills
•Dependable and accountable, and able to work effectively in a dynamic environment
•Requires excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communications skills
•Experience with the space industry a plus
