Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

NBME is seeking an AWS Serverless Software Engineer to join the Product Engineering Unit as a key member of the Exam Delivery Team. In this role, you will develop, deploy, and support scalable, secure, and highly available applications using AWS serverless technologies and event-driven architecture.

You will work closely with Product Owners, Architects, Infrastructure, Security, and Engineering teams to deliver cloud-native solutions that support mission-critical exam delivery platforms. The ideal candidate has hands-on AWS experience, strong software engineering fundamentals, and an interest in growing expertise in serverless architecture, cloud engineering, and modern DevOps within an Agile environment.

This role has been designated as primarily remote, meaning it requires little to no onsite attendance. While this role can be designated as remote, you are offered the flexibility to select if you prefer to work primarily remotely, hybrid, or onsite. We're open to considering candidates within 50 miles of our office location in Philadelphia, PA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support cloud-native applications that support mission-critical exam delivery platforms.
  • Develop and enhance event-driven solutions that are secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective.
  • Contribute to technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and solution planning activities under the guidance of senior engineers and architects.
  • Develop and maintain APIs, integrations, and distributed application components.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), deployment automation, and operational processes to improve system reliability and efficiency.
  • Monitor application health, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to continuous improvement of system performance and operational excellence.
  • Develop data integration and storage solutions that support business and operational requirements.
  • Apply security best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, Infrastructure, Security, and Engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain technical documentation and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
  • Continuously expand AWS cloud, serverless, and software engineering skills through hands-on development, learning, and collaboration with senior engineers.

Skills and Abilities

  • Hands-on experience with AWS serverless technologies, including AWS Lambda, API Gateway, AppSync, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Step Functions, DynamoDB, and S3.
  • Experience developing and supporting event-driven and cloud-native applications.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, including experience with boto3 and AWS SDKs.

Compensation we are offering for this position is at $93,850 - $143,700/year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
