What is a remote audio visual design engineer?

A Remote Audio Visual (AV) Design Engineer is a professional who designs and develops AV systems such as video conferencing setups, sound systems, and integrated multimedia solutions, all while working from a remote location. They collaborate with clients and teams virtually to create technical drawings, system specifications, and integration plans tailored to specific needs. Their responsibilities often include selecting appropriate AV equipment, ensuring system compatibility, and providing remote support during installation and troubleshooting. This role requires strong technical knowledge, communication skills, and proficiency with AV design software.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote audio visual design engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Audio Visual Design Engineer, you need expertise in AV system design, signal flow, and integration, typically supported by a degree in engineering or a related field and experience with industry standards. Familiarity with design software (like AutoCAD, Visio), AV control systems (like Crestron, Extron), and certifications such as CTS or CTS-D are highly valued. Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills help you collaborate effectively with clients and remote teams. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable AV solutions that meet client requirements and industry standards.

What are some common challenges faced by remote audio visual design engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Audio Visual Design Engineers often face challenges related to effective communication and collaboration, as much of the design and troubleshooting work must be coordinated virtually with team members and clients. Ensuring accurate site assessments and system integration can be difficult without physical presence, so leveraging detailed documentation, virtual walkthroughs, and clear communication tools is essential. Additionally, staying updated on rapidly evolving AV technologies and standards is crucial for delivering high-quality solutions. Building strong relationships with local onsite partners and maintaining a proactive approach to project management can help overcome these challenges.

What is the difference between Remote Audio Visual Design Engineer vs AV Systems Designer?

Job description

CoreWeave is The Essential Cloud for AI™. Built for pioneers by pioneers, CoreWeave delivers a platform of technology, tools, and teams that enables innovators to build and scale AI with confidence. Trusted by leading AI labs, startups, and global enterprises, CoreWeave combines superior infrastructure performance with deep technical expertise to accelerate breakthroughs and turn compute into capability. Founded in 2017, CoreWeave became a publicly traded company (Nasdaq: CRWV) in March 2025. Learn more at www.coreweave.com.
What You'll Do:

The Data Center Design team is the technical engineering team responsible for the architectural and infrastructure design standards across CoreWeave's global portfolio, ensuring facilities are highly scalable, efficient, and optimized to support next-generation, high-density compute workloads. The team governs the entire design lifecycle from early-stage site feasibility through final technology fit-out, establishing the foundation for seamless construction and long-term operational success. Through continuous technical innovation and standardization, they enable CoreWeave to rapidly and reliably scale its physical footprint to meet global infrastructure demands.

About the role:

The Senior Manager, White Space Design leads the design of white space infrastructure and fit-out across CoreWeave's expanding data center portfolio. In this role, you will own the development and administration of the White Space Basis of Design while performing comprehensive technical reviews of infrastructure layouts, power distribution, and cooling configurations. You will act as both a hands-on technical expert and a manager of internal and external design resources, including third-party consultants. Additionally, you will collaborate daily with cross-functional construction and operations teams to ensure all designs are scalable, constructable, and seamlessly handed off for deployment.

The Senior Manager, White Space Design owns the end-to-end design strategy, development, and administration of the White Space Basis of Design across CoreWeave's global data center portfolio. On a day-to-day basis, you will perform deep-dive technical reviews of infrastructure layouts, high-density cooling configurations (such as remote CDUs and containment systems), power distribution strategies, and low-voltage pathways to proactively eliminate gaps in coordination and constructability. You will act as a hands-on technical subject matter expert, balancing direct design production and engineering work with the management and mentorship of internal design engineers and external engineering consultants. Ultimately, you will drive daily cross-functional alignment with Construction, Operations, Network Engineering, and Commissioning teams to guarantee that all white space designs are scalable, operationally sound, and seamlessly transitioned from concept through construction handoff.

Who You Are:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in data center design, mission-critical infrastructure engineering, or white space design leadership.
  • Direct experience with data center white space infrastructure systems, including PDUs, RPPs, busways, branch circuits, hot aisle containment systems, remote CDUs, fan walls, and high-density cooling strategies.
  • Experience working as a consulting engineer, design consultant, or owner's representative overseeing third-party design consultants.
  • Documented knowledge of low voltage infrastructure systems, including structured cabling, ladder rack, cable tray systems, overhead conveyance, and network pathway coordination.
  • Documentation & Review: Experience reviewing and interpreting construction drawings, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and design change documentation.
  • Software Proficiency: Hands-on proficiency with engineering and project management tools, specifically AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Asana, Smartsheets, or equivalent platforms.
  • Industry Standards: Compliance and working knowledge of data center design standards and industry guidelines, including TIA-942, BICSI, ASHRAE, NFPA, and Uptime Institute.

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience supporting hyperscale, High-Performance Computing (HPC), or high-density compute environments.
  • Practical familiarity with capacity planning, scalability modeling, and design standardization.

Wondering if you're a good fit? We believe in investing in our people, and value candidates who can bring their own diversified experiences to our teams – even if you aren't a 100% skill or experience match. Here are a few qualities we've found compatible with our team. If some of this describes you, we'd love to talk.

  • You love to own complex infrastructure projects end-to-end.
  • You're curious about improving scalability, reliability, and design efficiency.
  • You're an expert in white space design, Low Voltage systems, and network infrastructure.
