What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Audio Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Audio Tester, you need a strong understanding of audio engineering principles, critical listening skills, and familiarity with industry standards, often supported by experience in sound production or audio technology. Proficiency with audio testing software, digital audio workstations (DAWs), and various hardware devices is commonly required. Attention to detail, effective communication, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for identifying issues and collaborating with remote teams. These skills and qualities are important to ensure accurate evaluations, maintain audio quality, and contribute to product improvements in distributed work environments.

What are some common challenges faced in a remote audio testing role, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in remote audio testing is ensuring consistent audio quality across various devices and network conditions, since you often don't have physical access to the hardware. To address this, testers typically use a wide range of emulators and real devices, and collaborate closely with developers to report and reproduce issues. Effective communication and attention to detail are crucial, as is the ability to document findings clearly for a distributed team. Staying organized and proactive about troubleshooting technical issues with remote setups can also help streamline the workflow.

At Magnite, we cultivate an environment of continuous growth and collaboration. Our work impacts what millions of people read, watch, and buy, and we're looking for people to help us tackle that responsibility with creativity and focus. Magnite (NASDAQ: MGNI) is the world's largest independent sell-side advertising platform. Publishers use our technology to monetize their content across all screens and formats including CTV / streaming, online video, display, and audio. Our tech fuels billions of transactions per day!

About this team:

  • Collaborate daily with Product, UI, and Data engineers to take features from requirements and delivery.

  • Design and build APIs that are intuitive and easy to consume: clear contracts (OpenAPI), well-documented, versioning strategies, pagination, filtering, batching, and strong SLAs/SLOs.

  • Champion code quality: welltested, observable, maintainable code; thoughtful reviews; design docs; and pragmatic documentation.

  • Own services in production: dashboards, alerting, capacity and load testing, costaware design, and reliability improvements.

  • Leverage AI-assisted tools in your development process

We're looking for someone with:

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience.

  • Primary development experience in modern (latest JVM version) Java for high-throughput, low-latency back-end web services.

  • Hands-on experience with Postgres (or other RDBMS): modeling, migrations, indexing, and query optimization.

  • Proficiency with Git/GitHub and modern team practices (reviews, trunk/branch strategies, code ownership).

  • Clear, empathetic communication and a collaborative mindset.

Nice to Have:

  • Exposure to cloud providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and container orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes).

  • Experience with asynchronous programming patterns, high levels of concurrency, and with frameworks such as Vert.x and Dropwizard is highly desirable.

  • Experience with eventdriven or streaming architectures.

  • Understanding of authN/Z patterns (OAuth2/JWT), rate limiting, and API security.

  • Observability tools and practices (metrics, tracing, logs) and load/perf testing.

  • Knowledge of Real-Time Bidding (RTB), SSPs, DSPs, and ad delivery systems is a strong plus.

In CA, the base salary range for this role is $125,000 - $135,000.

In CO, the base salary range for this role is $115,000 - $125,000.

Perks and Benefits:

  • Family-Focused Benefits and Parental Leave

  • 401k Retirement Savings Plan with Employer Match

  • Disability and Life Insurance

  • Cell Phone Subsidy

  • Monthly Fitness and Reimbursement

Career Growth:

We support internal mobility, skill development, and leadership pathways through structured career frameworks and learning programs.
