How much do remote architectural journalism jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 3, 2026, the average yearly pay for remote architectural journalism in the United States is $63,121.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $60,000.00 and $66,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is remote architectural journalism?

Remote architectural journalism is a specialized field where professionals research, write, and report on topics related to architecture, design, and the built environment, all while working remotely. These journalists produce articles, reviews, interviews, and analyses for digital or print publications, often collaborating with architects, designers, and industry experts online. The role combines a deep understanding of architecture with strong writing and communication skills, and it leverages digital tools for remote collaboration and content creation. This career allows flexibility in location, as most work can be conducted via the internet, making it accessible to writers worldwide.

How does collaboration typically work in remote architectural journalism roles?

In remote architectural journalism, collaboration often takes place through digital communication tools such as email, video conferencing, and project management platforms. Journalists regularly interact with editors, photographers, architects, and sometimes other writers to coordinate story ideas, fact-checking, and publication timelines. While the role is largely independent, teamwork is essential when covering complex projects or organizing feature articles that require multiple perspectives. Clear communication and proactive scheduling are key to ensuring smooth collaboration across different time zones and work styles.

What kind of jobs in media bring in $150,000 a year?

In media, roles such as senior editors, media directors, and executive producers often earn $150,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, leadership responsibilities, and advanced skills in content management and production. High-level positions in digital media, broadcasting, and publishing typically require strong industry knowledge, strategic planning, and sometimes advanced degrees or certifications.

Is it possible to work remotely as an architect?

Remote architectural journalism is possible, especially for roles involving writing, editing, or research related to architecture. However, traditional architecture design and site visits typically require on-site presence, and licensing requirements may also influence remote work options. Skills in digital tools like CAD and BIM can facilitate remote work in architecture-related fields.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Architectural Journalist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Architectural Journalist, you need a strong background in architecture or design, excellent writing skills, and experience in journalism or content creation. Familiarity with digital publishing platforms, basic photo editing software, and SEO practices is typically required. Strong research abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly are essential soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate, engaging, and authoritative architectural content that resonates with both industry professionals and general audiences.

Is AI putting architects out of work?

AI is transforming architectural journalism by automating tasks such as data analysis, image processing, and content generation, which can enhance efficiency but may reduce the need for certain manual tasks. However, architects and architectural journalists still rely on creative, interpretive, and contextual skills that AI cannot fully replicate, so AI is more likely to augment rather than replace these roles. Professionals in this field should focus on developing skills in digital tools and critical analysis to stay competitive.

Can you work remotely as a journalist?

Remote architectural journalism is a viable career option, as many journalists in this field can work from home using digital tools, research, and communication platforms. Success in remote roles often depends on strong writing skills, industry knowledge, and familiarity with content management systems. Some employers may require occasional on-site visits or interviews, but many tasks can be completed remotely.

Description
WTWH Media is seeking a strategic, data-driven, and structurally minded Vice President of B2B Audience Development to lead our audience growth, engagement, and retention strategies across a robust portfolio of 30+ distinct brands and 40+ annual events. In this role, you will bridge the gap between traditional audience channels and cutting-edge marketing technology, managing a modern, hybrid ecosystem that spans digital products, live events, and print circulation.
Working hand-in-hand with our Content Leadership, you will serve as the crucial link between data insights and creative execution. You will collaborate directly with journalists and content creators to help shape and refine our "audience voice," ensuring our content resonates deeply with our professional communities while driving measurable growth.
Additionally, you will directly manage, mentor and scale a dedicated team of audience development professionals (spanning data analytics, email marketing, digital acquisition, and circulation fulfillment).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Multi-Brand & Event Growth Strategy: Define and execute unified yet tailored audience acquisition, engagement, and retention strategies across our entire portfolio of 30+ B2B brands and 40+ events.
  • Editorial Collaboration & Audience Voice: Partner closely with the VP of Content, journalists, and content creators. Translate audience data into actionable insights that help creative teams refine their editorial strategy, develop a distinct audience voice, and build community loyalty without compromising editorial integrity.
  • Systems Architecture & Data Connectivity: Oversee the technical integration of our marketing tech stack. Ensure seamless data flows and connectivity between our CRM, Customer Data Platform (CDP), Email Service Provider (ESP), website analytics, and external fulfillment databases to maintain a single source of truth for our audience data.
  • Print Circulation Management: Oversee the strategy, vendor relationships, and compliance for our print circulation portfolio. Ensure accurate list maintenance, postal optimization, and adherence to relevant industry audit standards (e.g., BPA/AAM).
  • Team Leadership: Directly manage and mentor a high-performing team of 4 specialists. Foster a culture of technical curiosity, creative collaboration, and accountability while helping team members achieve their career goals.
  • Budget & ROI Management: Allocate and manage the audience development budget effectively, balancing the manufacturing/distribution costs of print and event execution with the scalable acquisition costs of digital channels.

Requirements
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in B2B marketing, growth marketing, or audience development, with a proven track record of managing large, multi-brand portfolios and event audiences.
  • Editorial Sensibility: Strong experience interfacing directly with journalists, editors, and content creators. You understand the creative process and know how to use data to empower-not restrict-content teams.
  • Technical Architecture & System Acumen: Proven experience mapping and managing data architecture. You understand how APIs, data pipelines, and system integrations connect platforms like HubSpot/Marketo, Salesforce, CDPs (e.g., Lytics, Tealium), and traditional circulation fulfillment systems.
  • Print & Digital Hybrid Expertise: A strong understanding of print circulation logistics, fulfillment operations, and subscriber lifecycle management, paired with a modern digital growth mindset.
  • Leadership Track Record: 3+ years of direct people management experience. You know how to motivate a small team to deliver outsized results across a large, complex organization.
  • Analytical Mindset: Exceptional ability to translate complex, multi-channel data sets into clear, actionable growth strategies. You speak the language of database health, query logic, and engagement scoring.

WHAT WE OFFER
We believe that a highly engaged audience is our greatest asset. As our VP of Audience Development, you will have the unique opportunity to shape both our physical and digital footprint across dozens of industries, backed by an editorial and engineering leadership team that values robust technical infrastructure and continuous innovation. In addition, the following benefits are available:
  • Remote work environment, with occasional travel required for company events, team meetings, etc.
  • Generous vacation, sick, float and bereavement paid time off
  • Twelve paid office holidays annually
  • Comprehensive benefits to meet your health needs (medical, dental, vision, life, disability and more)
  • Fully paid medical leave after one year of service
  • Lucrative 401(k) with matching contributions and immediate vesting
  • Mission-driven culture with an enthusiastic, professional team
  • Strong commitment to work-life balance
