What is a remote application developer?

Remote Application Developers are professionals who design, build, test, and maintain software applications, working from a location outside the traditional office setting. They collaborate with teams and clients using digital tools to develop both web and mobile applications, often across various industries. Their responsibilities include coding, debugging, and ensuring applications meet user needs and performance standards, all while working remotely. This role requires strong technical skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage tasks independently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote application developer?

To thrive as a Remote Application Developer, you need strong programming skills, a solid understanding of software development lifecycles, and typically a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, cloud platforms, and frameworks such as React or Node.js, along with experience in agile development environments, is often required. Excellent self-management, communication, and problem-solving skills help remote developers collaborate effectively and meet project goals. These abilities ensure high-quality, efficient software delivery and seamless teamwork across distributed environments.

How does a remote application developer typically collaborate with team members across different time zones?

Remote Application Developers often work with colleagues spread across various locations, which makes effective communication and collaboration essential. Teams usually rely on project management tools, version control systems, and regular virtual meetings to coordinate tasks and share progress. Clear documentation and asynchronous communication, such as detailed code reviews and status updates, help ensure everyone stays aligned despite time zone differences. Building strong relationships with team members and proactively addressing blockers are key to thriving in this environment.

At RTX, the world's largest aerospace and defense company, 185,000 great minds are united by purpose and inspired to make a difference solving the world’s most complex problems. With our three market leading businesses, world-class operations and investments in research and development, we offer capabilities and opportunity no one else can. Together, we push the boundaries of known science and find new ways to connect and protect our world.

Raytheon brings the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. We deliver solutions that help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression, creating a safer, more secure world. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.

What You Will Do

  • Deliver end-to-end features for internal Operations & Supply Chain web applications, from requirements clarification through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Build modern UIs using Blazor + DevExpress (DxGrid, editors, forms), with strong focus on performance for data-heavy screens (many columns, large datasets).
  • Design and implement backend services/APIs in C#/.NET, including validation, error handling, and secure integration patterns.
  • Develop and optimize data access for Azure SQL / SQL Server, including efficient query patterns, indexing awareness, and scalable pagination/streaming approaches.
  • Own quality and maintainability: write clean code, add tests where appropriate, participate in code reviews, and improve existing patterns incrementally.
  • Improve operability and reliability: logging/telemetry, monitoring/alerting, and incident troubleshooting using Azure-native tooling.
  • Partner with stakeholders (Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Finance) to translate ambiguous needs into clear technical designs and pragmatic delivery plans.
  • Contribute to technical standards and reusable components to accelerate delivery across multiple applications.

What You Will Learn

  • Deeper system ownership for enterprise manufacturing applications: performance, reliability, maintainability, and security at scale.
  • Advanced DevExpress/Blazor patterns for complex grids, editing workflows (single/bulk), dynamic UI behaviors, and metadata-driven UX.
  • Production operations in Azure: deployment patterns, observability, and cost-aware scaling.
  • Modern data integration patterns (APIs, scheduled jobs, event-driven workflows) and how they map to business processes.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree and 3 years of experience.

  • Experience in C#/.NET and building service-oriented backend logic (APIs/services).
  • Hands-on experience with Blazor (preferred) or comparable modern SPA/component frameworks plus willingness to ramp quickly in Blazor.
  • Experience with SQL Server/Azure SQL (or equivalent) building data-driven applications; ability to diagnose and optimize slow queries and data access patterns.
  • Experience with Git-based workflows, code reviews, and disciplined engineering practices (testing, documentation, secure coding).

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Ability to work independently, drive work to completion, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong experience with DevExpress Blazor (DxGrid/editors/reporting), including performance tuning and customization at scale.
  • Experience deploying/operating applications in Azure (App Services, Azure SQL, Storage, Functions) and working with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Observability experience (structured logging, metrics, traces) and incident triage using Azure tooling (Application Insights, Log Analytics, alerts).
  • Identity and access integration experience (Entra ID/Azure AD, OAuth2/OIDC, PingFederate) and authorization patterns (RBAC, claims).
  • Experience with large data and UX performance patterns: server-side paging/virtualization, background fetching, caching, and deduplication.
  • Experience with data platforms/integration (Snowflake, ADF, APIs, Service Bus/Logic Apps).
  • JavaScript/TypeScript + Blazor JS interop for advanced UI behaviors.
  • Familiarity with AI/LLM integrations (Azure OpenAI/OpenAI), responsible AI practices, and basic quality/cost monitoring.
