Job description

As a Small Animal Internal Medicine Consultant, you will provide phone-based clinical consultations to veterinary professionals across the US and Canada, supporting diagnostic interpretation and patient care decisions.
You'll join IDEXX's Reference Laboratories team, a group dedicated to delivering high-quality diagnostic insights and exceptional service to veterinary clients. Working alongside fellow specialists, you'll help ensure timely, accurate, and impactful clinical guidance to improve patient outcomes.

Your expertise will support improved diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes, strengthening the trust IDEXX customers place in our services. By combining specialized knowledge with accessible consultation, you'll help elevate veterinary care across a broad network of clinics.
In this role:
  • You will deliver live phone consultations to veterinary customers regarding laboratory results, diagnostic testing, and treatment options
  • You'll guide clinicians on proper specimen handling techniques and help identify factors that may impact test accuracy
  • You will advise on available IDEXX reference laboratory tests, including specimen requirements, clinical utility, and interpretation of results
  • You'll support customers with Point-of-Care diagnostics such as SNAP tests, VetTest, CatalystDX, LaserCyte, and ProCyte systems
  • You will manage a consistent caseload while meeting turnaround time expectations and maintaining availability during scheduled hours
  • You'll maintain and grow your clinical expertise through continuing education and current veterinary literature
  • You will participate in regular consulting service meetings and broader IDEXX training or organizational sessions
  • You'll document all consultation interactions accurately within the CRM system
  • You will maintain active board certification and applicable veterinary licensure

What you need to succeed:
  • DVM (or equivalent veterinary degree) with ACVIM (Small Animal Internal Medicine) board certification (DACVIM, SAIM) or equivalent
  • Active veterinary license (state or provincial, as applicable)
  • Strong clinical expertise in small animal internal medicine and diagnostic interpretation
  • Ability to communicate complex medical information clearly and effectively over the phone
  • Comfort working in a remote, technology-enabled environment with dedicated office space and high-speed internet
  • Commitment to maintaining Diplomate status and ongoing continuing education
  • Ability to manage multiple consultations and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluency in English required; other language skills are a plus
