Duties
Help
- Cleans animal cages, runs and kennel rooms on a daily basis or as directed. Disinfects cage or run after discharge or release of animals. Cleans and sanitizes all feed and water pans daily or after use.
- Feeds and provides fresh water for all confined animals daily and/or as directed. Protects animals from extreme weather conditions and from other animals. Takes certain precautions and uses special skills in handling vicious animals.
- Observes all animals confined daily for all signs of illness, insect infestation, loss of weight or abnormal behavior and reports conditions noted to supervisor.
- Administers topical and/or oral medications as directed by supervisor and records such treatments on clinic records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- Satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para 2, to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
- Satisfactory completion of physical examination.
- Work requires lifting and carrying animals/material weighing up to 75 pounds and frequently handling items weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Walks or stands for extended periods and frequently works in a bent position.
- Moderate physical effort is required to lift or handle docile animals.
- Work is performed inside and outside of buildings. Inside work exposes the caretaker to unpleasant odors and noises. Outside work exposes the caretaker to hot sun and occasionally bad weather.
- Under both conditions the caretaker works on concrete floors and is exposed to bites, scratches, and animal wastes.
- The caretaker may also be exposed to contagious diseases.
Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following:
- Knowledge of normal appearance and activities of animals to be able to recognize such characteristics as excessive loss of fur, pregnancy, indicators of fighting, illness, disease, and refusal to feed.
- Knowledge of normal feed and liquid requirements, different types of fee, and the ability to adjust amounts of feed for different animals.
- Ability to identify animals by tattoos, tags, or other markers.
- Skill in handling vicious animals.
- Ability to lift and carry weights up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.

- This job is open to candidates who are located in the local commuting area. (Within a 50-mile radius of Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield, GA) (Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration.)

PCS Costs
- Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
Allowances and Differentials
- This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
- Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
